Iroha

Iroha is a cafe restaurant renovated from a kominka (traditional Japanese house). In addition to serving lunch courses made with carefully selected ingredients, it also offers reservation-only kakigori (shaved ice).

Inside, guests take off their shoes before entering, and the restaurant has table seating, ozashiki (tatami seating), and counter seats.

The kakigori (shaved ice) menu changes monthly. In the past, they have offered flavors that make the most of fruits from around Japan, such as grapes from Okayama Prefecture and apples from Aomori Prefecture.

Depending on the menu item, some syrups are even made after you order.

It seems the lunch course menu changes every month. From the Appetizers and main dish to the meal course, it is said to be well loved for its sense of the season.

The "Hashizome" served at the start of the course is said to be a plate where you can enjoy small portions of various carefully prepared dishes.

希由塚

The kakigori (shaved ice) is piled up so high it looks like it might spill out of the bowl, topped with peach syrup, custard cream, and two slices of peach. It also comes with extra peach syrup on the side. The peach flesh is fresh and juicy. There is also plenty of peach syrup used, so you can really taste the peach fruitiness, and it is very delicious.

カレーネキ

Shaved ice by reservation only. We ordered fig pistachio brûlée and corn with hojicha (roasted green tea) caramel. The two of us shared them while we ate. The sauce on top and the sauce served on the side were both very rich! It also had fresh figs inside, and whole pieces of corn too, so we could enjoy it without getting tired of the flavor.

Kondo Seito Honpo

Kondo Seiame Honpo is a shop about an 8-minute walk from JR Heisei Station, and it started out as an ame-ya (candy shop). They serve kakigori (shaved ice) made with a focus on Homemade ice all year round.

Besides kakigori, they also offer ice pops and deli items.

The ice for the kakigori (shaved ice) is made by simmering Kumamoto underground water, mizuame (starch syrup), and a small amount of salt in their own special blend. They then let the shaved ice rest overnight to create what they call jukuhyo (aged ice).

It does not melt easily even in summer, so you can enjoy its cool chill right down to the last bite.

"Toro~ri Mango" is a generous shaved ice topped with chunky pieces of mango flesh.

It is said to stand out for its light, crunchy ice texture. When you mix the ice well so the syrup and fruit coat it, the texture changes to something thick and sticky.

・Milk sauce
Take care with the incredibly tasty crunchy and sticky toppings of mikan (mandarin orange), pineapple, and anko (sweet red bean paste). Spread them out as you enjoy them together with the shaved ice

Fuka Bijin

Fuka Bijin is located on the second basement floor of Tsuruya Hyakkaten (Tsuruya Department Store). It serves desserts such as kakigori (shaved ice) and light meals, and also offers Takeout.

The spacious eat-in area is said to be easy to visit even alone and lets you relax.

There are two sizes of kakigori (shaved ice) to choose from, so you can pick one based on your mood that day. You can also add extra toppings such as tapioca, ice cream, and fruit.

Adding ice cream gives it a rich and creamy taste.

This is "wafu (Japanese-style) snow ice," a milk-based shaved ice dessert topped with matcha ice cream, anko (sweet red bean paste), shiratama (rice flour dumplings), and more.

The ice has a light, smooth texture. People say it is mildly sweet and refreshing, while still being satisfying, and it has a reputation for being Manzoku.

・Mango snow ice
It tastes just like real mango fruit and is really delicious. The amount of ice was just right, too. I do not like things that are too sweet, so this level of sweetness was perfect for me.

・Coffee Snow Ice
I went with the coffee kakigori (shaved ice) with mild sweetness. It was pretty big in volume( ̄◇ ̄;)It had a slightly bitter taste, but the ice cream balanced it out. It was tasty, kind of like a coffee float.

Hakko Cafe Marukame

Hakko Cafe Marukame is a fermentation-themed cafe attached to a farm stand at the foot of the mountains. Its creative kakigori (shaved ice) made with fermented foods such as miso, soy sauce, and amazake (sweet fermented rice drink) are popular.

Inside the warm, wood-filled space, table seating is available.

The most popular item, “Miso Caramel Nuts,” is an unusual kakigori (shaved ice dessert) made with sweet barley miso.

The fluffy ice with its rich caramel and full-bodied miso is said to be irresistible.

The “shoyu kuromitsu kinako (soy sauce, brown sugar syrup, and roasted soybean flour)” is shaved ice made with koikuchi shoyu (dark soy sauce) in the kuromitsu sauce (brown sugar syrup), topped with shiratama (rice flour dumplings) and anko (sweet red bean paste).

The nutty aroma of the kinako and the rich taste of the kuromitsu are said to come together nicely with the salty note of the shoyu.

エリンギ の菌床

・Marron amazake (sweet fermented rice drink) milk
This one had a rich flavor, and it also had a caramel-like sauce inside. The chestnut cream was rich above all, so I could enjoy the flavor all the way to the end.

・bankan (late-season citrus) cheese cream
This is so good! It uses plenty of bankan pulp, and there’s lots of syrup too, with cheese cream drizzled in a lattice pattern and cream cheese inside! What a luxurious kakigori (shaved ice) this is.
