Toyama Prefecture: Restaurants in the Toyama Area Where You Can Enjoy Omurice

Shimada Shokudo

Located in Kamiokubo, Toyama City, along National Route 41, Shimada Shokudo is a long loved local restaurant that first opened in 1978.

The menu centers on set meals, and every dish is known for its big portions. Its retro, warm, neighborhood feel is part of the appeal too.

There are four sizes of Omurice, from medium to extra extra large. Even the medium comes with a lot of rice, so it is said to be very filling.

Some say they love the old school Omurice, with ketchup fried rice wrapped in a firmly cooked thin omelet.

The other menu items offer a wide lineup, including rice bowls, stir fries, Hamburger Steak, and curry.

This is the ever popular “ramen.” Made with a broth based on soy sauce and seafood, it is said to be an irresistible bowl with a comforting homemade taste.

Omurice looks comforting from the moment you see it, and the ketchup rice wrapped in soft egg is simply delicious. It is not flashy, but it is carefully made and has a taste you can enjoy without getting tired of it until the last bite. It makes sense that so many people come looking for this kind of Omurice. It is the kind of dish that comes back to mind in everyday life and makes you want to eat it again.

Families often share the extra large size, but even the medium is plenty big!! And the taste... wow... it's insanely good... (*´ч`*) What is this amazing savory aroma!! Even though it's a simple ketchup Omurice, it's packed with so much flavor and tastes so good!!

Brasserie

Brasserie is a restaurant where you can enjoy creative Omurice made with carefully selected eggs, along with classic yoshoku (Japanese-style Western) dishes.

It is located along Toyama Prefectural Route 7 and has a parking lot. The restaurant was originally a coffee shop, and its simple, nostalgic interior is said to be exceptionally comfortable.

The biggest point of pride in their Omurice is that they use natural eggs from Toyama Prefecture and make it with eggs only, without adding any fresh cream or seasonings.

They offer a wide variety of sauces, and the most popular is the "slow simmered luxurious beef stew sauce." It comes with plenty of tender meat, and the rich sauce pairs perfectly with it.

The Omurice with “crab tomato cream sauce” uses a whole swimming crab. The rich sauce is said to bring together the tang of tomato and the mildness of cream.

When you eat it mixed with the soft, runny egg, it adds more depth and doubles the rich flavor.

I had the beef stew Omurice and the carbonara. The beef in the stew was outstanding! It was so tender that it seemed to melt away the moment it hit my mouth! Of course, the stew and the Omurice were both very delicious, and I was really impressed.

・House-made bacon and mozzarella tomato sauce
The cheese and bacon Omurice comes with a very rich cheese sauce, and the boldly placed bacon makes it even more exciting. Maybe the soft, fluffy egg holds the flavors together, which lets the other elements have fun. The salad and soup you can add as a set have that classic, just-what-you-want kind of taste.

oden/ganmo

The menu has a wide variety of choices, including pasta (spaghetti), Omurice, doria (Japanese baked rice gratin), and Hamburger Steak, so everyone from kids to adults is sure to find something they want to eat. In particular, the fluffy-egg Omurice is excellent, and you can enjoy it in many different versions, such as with hayashi sauce (Japanese demi-glace beef sauce) or cream sauce.

キドカラー

This original Omurice is a surprising dish. When you break into the smooth yellow egg with a spoon and look at the cross section with the chicken rice inside, the inner side of the egg is still soft, and the boundary between the egg and the chicken rice melts together as they blend into each other.

Tomato sauce and cream sauce with beni-zuwai-gani (red snow crab) from Toyama Prefecture
The beni-zuwai-gani claw on top feels extra luxurious. Coat the moist meat in the sauce, and no words are needed. This is where the sea of Toyama and Western-style cuisine come together at their best.

・Seafood curry sauce
It looks beautiful. It is topped with ingredients that do not seem to be frozen (probably), such as mussels, crab claws, scallops, peeled shrimp, and squid. The Omurice is made neatly, and the curry has some heat but a gentle flavor. This is exactly the kind of taste you want from a yoshokuya (Japanese-style Western restaurant).

The Hamburger Steak is well seasoned, and it goes very well with the tomato sauce that has a pleasant touch of acidity.

I heard the melty Omurice was great! We ordered Omurice, carbonara pasta, and pizza, and shared them between the two of us. The Omurice was just as melty as expected, with the soft-cooked eggs at a perfect doneness, and it was really delicious!

The "shiro ebi (white shrimp) cream croquette Omurice (salad + drink set)" was incredibly delicious, and it felt like it restored my tired body with fresh energy. The clean sweetness of the dessert, "coffee jelly soft serve," was also amazing, and it really helped me recharge. It was truly the best cafe restaurant that "kept me going"!☺️✨️

・Omureiru
Delicious! Both the chicken cutlet and the Omurice are great. The two kinds of sauce are each tasty in their own way. The portion is large, but it stays enjoyable all the way through without getting old. The rare cheesecake I ordered as a set was also excellent.

yoyosy

Omurice is pretty rare these days, and the egg was cooked through nicely. It looked smooth and beautiful with an even finish. But when I put in my spoon, the inside turned out to be soft and runny. That got me. It mixed really well with the chicken rice and tasted great.

どかゆき

When I was a student, I ate almost nothing but Omurice, but these days I mostly go for the pork tenderloin cutlet and Hamburger Steak. At that price, you just can't get pork tenderloin cutlet and Hamburger Steak like that. The steak Rice bowl made with maguro (tuna) cheek meat that sometimes shows up on the chalkboard menu was also very good. I think I'll keep coming and hope it appears again someday.

Just like the name suggests, the interior is decorated here and there with fox-themed pieces. The stylish dining space has an antique look.

The Most Popular menu item since the restaurant first opened is the "Omurice Set." It comes in 2 sizes.

Hannibal Barca

The large Omurice is filling, and I like the hayashi sauce poured over it with its slightly ethnic flavor. For dessert, I had pudding topped with kuromitsu (brown sugar syrup) and kinako (roasted soybean flour), and it had a comforting kind of good taste. Local people were relaxing there.

な~

Both the Omurice and the omuhayashi (omelet rice with hayashi sauce) were very good. Personally, I think I would recommend the omuhayashi a bit more... If a regular bowl of rice feels a little too much, the "small" size might be just right.

There’s no Omurice this cute~~~~~‪(ᐡт тᐡ) The shape of the Omurice with added aburi cheese (seared cheese) was so cute and the best! It was also great value, and I got in pretty quickly at lunchtime on a weekday. Of course, it tasted great too, and I’d really recommend it to anyone who loves Omuriceᙏ̤̫♡

I went with the tomato sauce. Each plate also comes with salad and miso soup. A softly set omelet sits on top of the ketchup rice, and when you break it open, the creamy egg spreads out. The eggs do not seem to have much fresh cream added, so it is surprisingly light.
