Sioru bakery is a bread shop located in a residential area of Karuizawa, Nagano. You definitely need a car to get there, but I think it will soon become a highly popular place.
We were on a two-day family trip to Karuizawa. After checking out of our hotel and playing at a nearby park, we made our way there leisurely without many plans.
We had decided to go to Sioru bakery. I might have found it on Instagram; I can't quite remember the trigger, but I've heard their bread is delicious. I was told that it’s advisable to make a reservation. So, a few days prior, I called to reserve, only to find out that many of the breads were already booked out. What a disappointment! However, I heard there are still various breads available for walk-ins, so I decided to visit anyway.
As I entered the address into the GPS and headed over, I actually passed it the first time. It’s around Nakakaruizawa, and since it’s located in a residential area with a modest sign, it can be a bit tricky to find at first. But I think once you visit, it won’t be difficult to go again.
Upon opening the store door, there was a showcase right in front of me, and the depth was slim, with breads displayed immediately upon entry.
I purchased focaccia, anko butter, and cream bread, totaling just under JPY 1000. I actually wanted to buy more, but will save it for my next visit.
I also bought a soft-looking bread, but my daughter ate it all during the drive. She was saying "It’s so delicious!" so I think she was satisfied.
Once home, we enjoyed the breads for breakfast the next day. The focaccia was crispy on the outside and moist inside, with an incredible aroma and was quite delicious.
The anko butter and cream bread were also satisfying. I wished I could have had their shokupan and baguette, so next time I’ll make sure to reserve early.
Karuizawa has many amazing bakeries, but I have no doubt that Sioru bakery will become even more popular soon. I've been visiting Karuizawa 1 to 2 times a year for about 10 years, and I feel there are more and more shops popping up from Nakakaruizawa towards Miyota year after year. Maybe I just wasn't aware of them before.
For bread lovers visiting Karuizawa by car, I highly recommend stopping by here.
It was a great meal.
