On the second day in Karuizawa, after checking out, we left our luggage at Harvest and took a taxi to Mikuriya for breakfast.
After our meal, we headed to Taliesin for some exercise and enjoyed the garden and the Hine Museum.
For lunch, we had made a reservation at a place located past the Harvest, just beyond the restaurant where we had dinner the previous night, Mugen.
The building is set back from the road, creating a lovely atmosphere.
Upon opening the door, we were greeted with warm smiles. They offered us a terrace seat but checked with us about the weather, and we decided to dine indoors.
As soon as we entered, there were table seats available, and further left, there were three tables and one sofa seat, with another table at the end on the right.
They recommended the table at the very back, where we enjoyed our meal under a stylish chandelier.
We ordered the following:
- Wagyu Filet Katsu Sandwich Tornado - JPY 4,400
- Soup Set - JPY 495
- Soup (A la carte) - JPY 770
- Heartland - JPY 715
Having had a hearty breakfast and some shaved ice, we weren't too hungry, so we decided to share the katsu sandwich.
Although they also had Chateaubriand (JPY 4,950), we opted for the Tornado, thinking it would be lighter.
Later, I found out that the Tornado is a thinner cut of filet than Chateaubriand, so the fat content might have been similar.
The Heartland was served with a bottle and a chilled glass, enhancing its deliciousness.
They also provided pistachios as a snack.
We ordered both the set soup and the a la carte soup.
The rich corn soup came with long, crispy croutons that were not greasy, which was a delightful surprise.
The katsu sandwich featured soft, moist bread with tender filet katsu inside.
The katsu was coated with fine breadcrumbs, allowing us to savor the meat fully.
The side dishes included radish, glazed carrots, and broccoli, adding vibrant colors and different textures.
Since we had plans to visit another café afterward, we skipped coffee.
This place not only serves meticulously prepared dishes but also offers exceptional service that reflects the warmth of the staff, making for a wonderful experience.
The only slight concern was that the restroom was quite visible from the dining area.
I would love to visit again the next time I go to Karuizawa.
