Once located in Old Karuizawa, this Italian restaurant moved to its current location about 12 years ago.
It’s situated on a back road that’s often used when Nakayama Road is congested, and although I’ve passed by many times, this was my first visit.
I made a reservation about a week in advance, and it turned out to be lucky as it was the last available table.
Even though summer vacation has ended, Saturday night was quite lively, with both the terrace and indoor seating nearly full, creating a wonderful atmosphere.
The homey interior, complemented by a large fireplace typical of Karuizawa, is adorned with colorful plates and bottles of alcohol, giving it a great vibe.
Most of the other guests seemed to be older, and even the younger ones were accompanied by older couples who appeared to be their sponsors.
Now, here’s what we ordered:
【Dinner Course】JPY 9,200 (tax included)
- Small appetizer
- Today's assorted appetizers
- Pasta dish (choose from 5 options)
- Main dish (Special Japanese Wagyu beef fillet grilled in the Tuscan style or a chef's choice fish dish from the market)
- Today's dessert (choose from 8 options)
- Homemade bread and grissini
- Post-meal drink
For the pasta, we chose:
- Risotto with Karuizawa green beans and porcini mushrooms, topped with Parmigiano cheese
- Spaghettini with fresh seafood and red snow crab, flavored with anchovy
For dessert, we selected:
- Tiramisu with seasonal fruits
- Mont Blanc with mascarpone cheese and chestnuts, served with vanilla ice cream (+JPY 400)
The small appetizer consisted of cold scallops and shrimp. The scallops were lightly smoked and delicious.
The assorted appetizers were a classic variety, but each dish was carefully crafted. The seasoning was elegant, leaving no thirst.
My wife had the risotto, while I opted for the spaghettini with seafood and crab.
The risotto had a perfect texture from the green beans and an exquisite aroma from the porcini mushrooms. My spaghettini was cooked al dente and was delicious at just the right timing.
The main dish, the fillet beef tagliata, was incredibly tender and flavorful, and the sauce was surprisingly delicious for Italian cuisine.
For dessert, I had the tiramisu, and my wife had the Mont Blanc. Both had a comforting flavor and presentation that allowed us to enjoy them without hesitation.
Such consistently good Italian cuisine is rare to find, and it’s likely beloved by vacation homeowners and discerning tourists as a testament to its long-standing presence in this area.
If you can secure a reservation, I would definitely want to visit this wonderful restaurant again.
It was a great meal.
