Located within Karuizawa Prince Shopping Plaza, just a 3-minute walk from Karuizawa Station.
We use stone-ground buckwheat flour made from whole buckwheat sourced from the foothills of Mount Asama and the Yatsugatake Mountains for our soba. Enjoy dishes that emphasize local ingredients. Relax and savor your meal in our spacious dining area. |
After spending time at the outlet on a weekday until 18:30, I decided it was time for dinner! However, I found that most restaurants nearby closed early. The Karuizawa Ajinomachi area stays open until 21:00 (L.O. 20:00), but I wanted something lighter, so I headed to Shinshu Soba Dokoro Yamahei.
Upon entering the restaurant, the staff informed me, "We have last orders soon and will be closing at 19:30. Is that alright?" It was 18:40, so of course, I was fine with that! I took a seat at the counter and reviewed the menu. I was craving something light, so I decided on seiro soba, but I debated whether to order one or two servings. When I checked with the staff, they informed me that one serving of noodles weighs 185g, so I went with one serving.
I placed my order at 18:45, and while taking photos of the menu and chopstick holder, my soba arrived. Wow! It was only about 5-6 minutes since I ordered.
- Seiro Soba (1 serving) - JPY 935
The soba came out so quickly that I wondered if it was pre-made, but after tasting a single noodle, I could tell it had wonderful texture and freshness—it didn’t seem pre-prepared at all. My apologies for doubting!
I placed some soba dipping sauce, green onions, and wasabi into a small cup and dipped the noodles in. The dipping sauce was refreshing and slightly rich, which I really enjoyed. The soba held up well against the sauce and was quite delicious. One serving was enough to leave me full.
- Kurumi Soba - JPY 1,595
My husband ordered this. The kurumi soba at Yamahei starts with grinding walnuts in a mortar. This is a great touch! If ground coarsely, you can enjoy the walnut's texture, and if finely ground, you can savor a creamy walnut flavor. You can decide the grinding method according to personal preference. My husband left enough texture for a satisfying bite. He mentioned, "It was great to enjoy two types of dipping sauces—the regular soba sauce and the walnut soba sauce. The walnut dipping sauce was delicious!"
We left the restaurant at 19:20, feeling like we had savored our meal thoroughly, but we completed it at quite the fast pace, reminiscent of an Edoite! (laughs) If we had ordered tempura or something on the side, it might have taken longer to serve, but since we only ordered seiro this time, dinner was wrapped up quicker than expected.
