Scandinavian goods also on sale |
This is a bakery located in Karuizawa, Nagano Prefecture.
I set off from Tokyo early on a weekday during Golden Week and headed straight to this store. I managed to arrive just in time for opening hours, and the display case was filled with freshly baked bread.
The interior had a stylish and sophisticated atmosphere, with household goods like tableware and bags also available for sale.
I ordered several items directly from the counter and decided to purchase the following:
- Baguette @ JPY 410 (Packaging: Paper Bag)
- Focaccia @ JPY 260 (Sold by weight, Packaging: Paper Bag)
- France Cublo @ JPY 400 (Packaging: Plastic Bag)
- Fruito 1/2 @ JPY 350 (Packaging: Paper Bag)
- Croissant @ JPY 400 (Packaging: Paper Bag)
- Pain au Chocolat @ JPY 400 (Packaging: Paper Bag)
- Cinnamon Pull @ JPY 350 (Packaging: Paper Bag)
France Cublo is a type of bread similar to white bread, while the Cinnamon Pull is a rich cinnamon roll. Fruito was like a bread with dried fruit, similar to Pain aux Fruits.
Once I tasted them, I found everything to my liking and delicious.
The croissant had a perfectly layered texture, with each layer bonded by gluten. Instead of crumbling easily, it broke apart with a satisfying crunch. The layers are thinly baked, suggesting there are plenty of folds. I honestly think this croissant was exquisite. However, the Pain au Chocolat, which had two chocolate batons, seemed off in proportion to the croissant dough, leaving me a bit unsatisfied.
The focaccia was also very melt-in-your-mouth and reminded me of Beaver Bread's focaccia. I chose a smaller piece since it was sold by weight, but considering its deliciousness, I should have gone for a larger size.
The baguette had a beautiful cross-section that spoke of its deliciousness, and when I tasted it, I found it had a deep and rich flavor. Of course, the France Cublo was also delightful with a pleasant texture and not overly sweet.
Though it's not easy to visit this bakery often, I am really glad I got to enjoy the bread from this place.
Delicious bread, thank you for the great meal.
