Grill Shinshu beef, pork, and young chicken to perfection in our special fireplace!
Using a special fireplace with oak wood, we grill fresh and robust ingredients like young chicken, lamb, Chiyo Maboroshi pork from Nagano, and Shinshu Premium beef. While you wait for the meat to be grilled to perfection, enjoy our appetizers featuring seafood delivered directly from the Sea of Japan! |
On the last night of the 3-day weekend, I visited with a companion. I tried to make a web reservation about a week ago, but it was fully booked. However, when I called, I was able to secure a table without any issues. We had the option of sitting at the counter or at a table, and we chose the counter seats where we could watch the cooking by the fireplace. The only downside was that the counter seats were a bit close to either the serving area or the entrance; on this occasion, we were near the former.
We ordered the fireplace-grilled course for two. For appetizers, we had Chiyo Gensuke pork terrine and pipérade (a Basque-style scrambled egg mixed with stewed peppers), and for the main course, we chose domestic bone-in aged beef. The soup was burdock potage.
First, we were served a jar of homemade pickles, followed shortly by the terrine. As we finished the terrine, the pipérade arrived. The pickles, which included myoga, had a gentle flavor. The terrine was much larger than I had imagined (the photo was taken after serving). I tried pipérade for the first time; it was a soft scrambled egg paired with a mild stewed pepper mixture. The potage was served in a pitcher.
The main course of aged beef was so good that I initially thought it was imported beef like Angus, but I learned it was domestic beef (not Wagyu). The meat was a meaty strip loin that was aged, cooked to perfection, and had a wonderful aroma from the wood fire. It was incredibly delicious. The sides included a generous portion of French fries and a salad with carrot dressing.
All the dishes were simple yet outstanding. The appetizer portions were enough for two, the soup could serve three, and the meat, along with the sides, was about enough for three people. Therefore, it was nearly impossible for two women or a couple to finish it all. Next time, I plan to order a la carte to reduce the number of dishes.
While filet and Wagyu might be more tender, I’m glad I chose the aged beef. It was a great meal.
