| Restaurant highlights |
A famous soba restaurant located in Oiwake along National Route 18 in Karuizawa. Open for dinner from August to the end of October!
Experience the authentic taste of hand-made soba, crafted with care using selected water and cool highland flour. Our flavorful, stone-ground soba incorporates powdered young soba leaves with minimal binding agents. |
Soba is delicious any time, but it's even more appealing in the summer.
On a trip, I stopped by Gensui.
When I arrived, despite it being a time outside of the weekday lunch rush, there were still a few groups waiting.
After writing my name down, I waited about 15-20 minutes before being seated.
The menu offered a wide variety of choices, making it hard to decide.
I ordered the wild vegetable and grated daikon soba, and we shared a tempura assorted platter.
My biggest impression was the astonishing portion size of the soba.
The taste is excellent, but the quantity is surprisingly large...
I found out that this is due to the owner's commitment to quality.
It's truly remarkable to maintain such dedication in these times.
By the way, even though the soba portion is large, it’s so delicious that I managed to finish it all.
The soba had a nice chewiness while being thin, making it easy to eat, which is quite a mystery.
The generous serving of grated daikon and wild vegetables was refreshing, perfect for summer.
The walnut sauce for dipping the soba was also very tasty and to my liking.
The atmosphere of the restaurant has a traditional charm, and the windows with morning glory blossoms allowed me to feel the summer vibe.
