Yakitori/Tori Ryori Saitado

Yakitori Tori Ryori Saitado is a hideaway-style restaurant tucked away in a back alley.

Inside, there are counter, table, and terrace-style seats. The casual atmosphere makes it a relaxing place to enjoy a meal.

You can enjoy yakitori made with Daisendori, a branded chicken from Tottori Prefecture. Daisendori is known for its tender and juicy meat.

Each skewer is prepared and put on the stick one by one in the restaurant, so the freshness is said to be excellent. The yakitori is grilled over binchotan (high grade charcoal), according to reviews.

One highlight here is the homemade kogane tsukune (golden chicken meatball), made by mixing ingredients such as chicken and shaping them into balls. It is said to be especially good when dipped in Bihoran (Ehime brand eggs).

The coarsely ground meat is soft and juicy, and people say the crunchy texture of cartilage adds to how good it tastes.

The skewers are grilled over binchotan (high-grade charcoal), which brings out a nice smoky aroma. Along with classics like negima (chicken and scallion skewer), sasami (chicken tenderloin), skin, and seseri (neck meat), they also offer a limited number of jidori skewers made with Awaodori (brand chicken), including thigh and breast. The house-made golden tsukune (chicken meatball skewer) is especially satisfying when dipped in Bihoran (premium eggs), giving each bite a real sense of comfort.

Kiwa

At Kiwami near Takadanobaba Station, you can enjoy yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) along with Japanese sake, wine, and more.

Inside the calm and relaxed space, you can choose from counter seats and Sunken kotatsu seating where you can stretch out and relax.

Among the sumibiyaki (charcoal grilled) yakitori, many people say the Heart and liver are especially good.

The cooking is spot on, and the liver has no strong distinctive flavor. They also highly recommend the assortment of vegetable rolls made by wrapping Special vegetables in pork belly.

The photo shows the "Kyo-gamo assortment (Kyoto duck assortment)," a set where you can enjoy breast loin, gizzard, tenderloin, Heart, and liver.

Kyo-gamo has very few off notes, and it is said to be thick and tasty. They recommend eating it with a light sprinkle of kuro-shichimi (black seven-spice blend).

The yakitori was high quality overall, and what stood out most was how good the organ cuts like reba (liver) were. They had no off notes, were cooked just right, and I could enjoy them with ease.

I find it very hard to discover a new yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) place that matches how I like it cooked, but luckily this restaurant was exactly that. I like the so called fuwatoro style, and that is how they serve it here. They also had all kinds of drinks, including beer, shochu, and highballs, but I recommend the shochu. They could serve it either on the rocks or with hot water.

Chikara Takadanobaba Ten

Chikara Takadanobaba Ten is well suited for lively group meals, thanks to its spacious single-floor layout with table seating only.

This cozy izakaya (Japanese pub) has touches of Japanese style throughout the interior.

The yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) is said to be grilled over charcoal until fragrant and juicy.

The “momo-kushi (chicken thigh skewer)” fills your mouth with juices and savory flavor in one bite, while the “bonjiri-kushi (chicken tail skewer)” is said to be tasty for its springy texture and the sweet richness of its fat.

The kushiyaki (grilled skewers) menu features not only yakitori (grilled chicken skewers), but also pork skewers and seafood skewers.

The seafood skewer toro shio saba (fatty salted mackerel) is said to have rich fat and a nicely flaky finish. The tako skewer (octopus skewer) has a pleasant bite, and its good octopus flavor spreads with every chew, according to reviews.

The skewers are carefully grilled over binchotan (high-grade white charcoal), and it is impressive how much flavor each one holds even from a single skewer. The à la carte dishes also feel special, with a wide range of flavors from items like steamed clams with sake and seared Wagyu. There is also a wide selection of drinks, from shochu (Japanese distilled spirit) and Japanese sake to cocktails, making it easy to enjoy without getting bored.

With beer and makgeolli, the skewers just keep coming. Along with yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) and yakiton (grilled pork skewers), the other menu items are all solid too, so you may find yourself staying longer than planned.

It feels like they have a lot of regulars, but they are also welcoming to first-time visitors. I ordered skewers of liver and Cartilage. I also had gatsu-sashi (parboiled pork stomach sashimi), Cartilage Kara-age, pickled Chinese cabbage, 1 beer, and 2 Kuro Kirishima on the rocks. Everything was properly tasty and the restaurant felt well balanced overall, but the liver was especially very good.

Taishu Yakitori Sakaba Irodori

Taishu Yakitori Sakaba Irodori is a restaurant in a great location, just a 1-minute walk from the Waseda Exit of JR Takadanobaba Station.

Their yakitori made with Takumi no Daisendori, a branded chicken carefully skewered by hand every day, is popular.

The photo shows charcoal grilled chicken breast. Shiso (Japanese perilla) is tucked between the skin and the breast, adding a nice accent.

In addition to standard yakitori items like thigh and tsukune (chicken meatball), the lineup is extensive and includes rare cuts such as akasoriresu (oyster cut) and Aorta.

In addition to yakitori (grilled chicken skewers), they also offer a full lineup of dishes that go well with drinks, such as the "Special Salt Kara-age" and "Chicken-Scented Nira-tama (garlic chive omelet)".

The Kara-age is served in a style where you dip it into the accompanying tentsuyu (tempura dipping sauce). They also have a selection of seasonal daily specials that change with the time of year.

The place gets crowded and has a lively atmosphere. They also have a Kinmiya bottle, and you can keep one on reserve. I also really enjoyed the yakitori and Appetizers! It is tucked away in a back alley behind the station and has a nice atmosphere! I would love to go again!

The grilling and seasoning with salt were perfect, and everything we ordered was really delicious! Even at highly rated yakitori (grilled chicken skewer) places, some shops overcook it or use too much salt, which I do not like, but this place suited my taste perfectly♪ They also had a wide selection of drinks, including sparkling wine and champagne.
