nodo飴

More than anything, it’s all about the gyoza (dumplings). They’re simply good gyoza. As long as you don’t expect too much, you’ll enjoy them. Expecting too much, that’s the danger. If you’ve had your fill of the gyoza, then relax with mapo dofu (spicy tofu), plus another a la carte dish or two, and To finish, how about a rice dish?

Madness and wild dancing

Kyoki to Ranbu is an izakaya (Japanese pub) centered on gyoza (dumplings), located a 5-minute walk from Hiroshima Station. Tucked away in a back alley, it has the feel of a hidden retreat.

The first floor has counter seating for small groups, while the second floor offers lively table seating.

These gyoza (Japanese dumplings) are packed with plenty of filling and put juiciness first. The lineup includes uniquely named dumplings such as “Inoshishi (boar),” with a nice hit of garlic, “Shika (venison),” brightened with ginger, and “Cho (butterfly),” with a fresh note of shiso (perilla).

They recommend sharing all three kinds so you can compare them.

Besides gyoza (dumplings), they also offer many original small plates that pair well with drinks. On the right in the photo is "Celery and Rayu (chili oil)".

This creative dish lets the celery soak up the rayu, and its slight bitterness goes perfectly with the spicy heat of the chili oil. It is said that every a la carte dish is carefully prepared.

Gyoza dumplings are cheap and tasty! They also have unusual varieties like shiso and salmon & spinach, so I tried a few kinds, but I liked the regular one and the shiso best!

In a word, it was amazing. The atmosphere, food, and service were all five stars. I was surprised how wrapping vegetables in meat and grilling them on skewers could make each flavor taste so good. My favorites were the lettuce maki (lettuce-wrapped skewer) and negi maki (green onion-wrapped skewer).
