Popular restaurants where you can enjoy sushi in Aoba Ward, Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture

Sushi Yutaka

Sushi Yutaka, about a 5-minute walk from Aobadori-Ichibancho Station in Aoba Ward, Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture, is a place where you can enjoy sushi that showcases the richness of Tohoku ingredients.

Inside, the calm space has only 8 counter seats in total. It also has a nice hideaway-like feel. It is by reservation only.

For both lunch and dinner, the menu centers on Omakase nigiri courses. Along with sushi, they also serve tsumami (small dishes to go with drinks) and soup.

The photo shows chutoro (medium fatty tuna) nigiri. This piece uses tuna aged for six months, and it is said to have a rich umami flavor and an excellent melt-in-your-mouth texture.

They pay close attention not only to the toppings but also to the shari (sushi rice), using aged Sasanishiki rice from Tome City, Miyagi Prefecture.

They also use akazu (red vinegar) and salt from Miyagi Prefecture, and the sushi rice seems to be slightly firm with a strong vinegar kick and bold flavor.

Each piece of nigiri was made with fresh toppings from Ishinomaki, and you could feel the careful work in every bite. The shako (mantis shrimp) and kinka-saba (brand mackerel from Kinkasan) especially stood out, with the full flavor of the ingredients really coming through. In the calm atmosphere of the restaurant, we could relax, enjoy our conversation, and have a great meal, leaving us very Manzoku. Our guests who came from far away were also very happy, so choosing this place was the right call.

だねこ

The kujira (whale) nigiri had a nice bit of texture while also seeming to melt in the mouth, with a kind of good taste that clearly set it apart from any whale I had eaten before, and it was every bit as good as tuna. The gari had an unusual style, driven not by acidity but by the umami of kombu kelp, and the more I ate it, the better it tasted. The iwashi (sardine) roll was pure bliss, filling the mouth with rich fat and wave after wave of umami like a flavor bomb.

It is an authentic sushi spot where skilled chefs make each piece right at the counter, but it has an easygoing atmosphere that makes it very comfortable. The akazu (red vinegar) rice was mellow and paired perfectly with the local fish toppings from Miyagi. The hirame (flounder) and Kinka saba (mackerel from Kinkasan) were especially fresh and impressive!

すいとぴぃ

We enjoyed local Miyagi fish dishes, sushi made with akazu (red vinegar), and seri-nabe (Japanese parsley hotpot). Everything we ate was very good. The seats were separated from the next table by sudare-like (bamboo blind style) partitions, so we could eat without worrying about the people next to us. For Japanese sake, it was fun that we could choose our ochoko (small sake cup) when ordering.

First of all, today’s acquapazza was amazingly good. The Sea Bream was moist, flaky, thick, and really satisfying to eatーーー! It went great with the baguetteー♪ Also, the sushi was cheap and tasty! The toppings were fresh too! And the balance of the vinegared rice was just right, so good. Cheap! I want to eat it again♪

We went with the course meal. Each dish featured ingredients mainly from Tohoku (northeastern Japan), and every one was delicious. The sushi also stood out, with shari (sushi rice) seasoned with just the right balance of akazu (red vinegar) and formed into pieces of a good size, and the toppings were all very good as well. I visited at night and enjoyed the food with some drinks. Needless to say, the sushi was great, and everything else was tasty too. I also had sushi topped with Kurihara no Kanpo Wagyu, and the meat had a nice salty kick and tasted great. The standouts for me were the tsun-tsun-zuke and the yawaraka ni-tako (soft-simmered octopus). The tsun-tsun-zuke had an amazing wasabi aroma that gently went through the nose, and it went perfectly with the drinks.

A giant anago (conger eel) nigiri. It is served with a Surprising huge anago nigiri placed boldly on a large plate. By feel, it is about the size of two extra-large anago nigiri from a typical sushi shop served together as one piece. It has a strong impact. The anago is plump and gently grilled, with a tender texture that softly falls apart in your mouth.
