Kashiwaya Kobayashi

Kashiwaya Kobayashi is a popular izakaya where you can enjoy yakitori made with Kuro-Satsuma-dori (Black Satsuma chicken) from Kagoshima Prefecture while staying right in Kurashiki. They grill it over carefully selected binchotan (high-grade charcoal), which is said to bring out the full flavor of the ingredients.

The interior is said to be a refined space with a Japanese feel. It makes you want to visit on a Special day.

The yakitori made with kuro-satsuma dori (black Satsuma chicken) is thick and plump, and some reviews even said, "I've never had yakitori this juicy!"

The photo shows the sasami (chicken tenderloin). It is topped with a garlic chive sauce from Okayama Prefecture, making this a nice dish where you can enjoy local flavors too.

The "liver pâté" served during the course is a popular dish, known for its buttery aroma and smooth texture.

It has a rich liver flavor and is seasoned on the bold side, making it a great snack to go with drinks.

The staff were all friendly and polite. Unusually for a yakitori restaurant, it had the calm feel of a kappo (traditional Japanese fine dining) restaurant, which made it very relaxing. I did not notice any smell at all. Another place I would love to visit regularly if it were closer. When I go to Okayama, I would like to make a little detour and come here.

・Omakase 8 Kinds
Starting with salad, the course is carefully put together with Appetizers like dashi broth, nikogori (jellied broth), shinjo (fish paste dumpling), followed by liver pâté. The 8 kinds of yakitori skewers are all delicious, but the yoshin was especially outstanding. The grilled vegetables offer a nice palate cleanser, and the flow all the way to the To finish tantan noodles is perfect. It was a highly satisfying course.

Sosaku Shusai Daidokoro 9494

Sosaku Shusai Daidokoro 9494 is an izakaya (Japanese pub) known for its carefully crafted original dishes that you can only find here. Jazz plays inside, and the space is said to be calm and relaxing.

Another plus is how easy it is to stop by from the Kurashiki Bikan Chiku (Kurashiki Historical Quarter).

Their signature dish that almost everyone orders is Kinta-imo. It is a croquette-style dish made by deep-frying mashed potatoes packed with bacon and potato.

Because the coating is so thin, it apparently feels almost like eating potato just as it is.

Another appealing point of this restaurant is its wide selection of dishes that go perfectly with drinks.

The photo shows the visually unique “tsukune (chicken meatball) nori-maki (seaweed roll).” Adding neriume (pickled plum paste) gives it a light, refreshing taste.

They also offer grilled skewers, à la carte dishes, and menu items made with seasonal ingredients, striking a nice balance that works for both lively meals with friends and quiet times in a small group... I felt this place had a wide enough range to work well as a first stop or as the last stop for drinks.

The sawara (Spanish mackerel) "aburi sashimi," seasoned with salt and pepper, has a pleasantly springy texture and rich fat in the flesh, and it is said to taste great even without soy sauce.

ゆべろぐううう

The yakitori was really delicious!!! The staff were also very attentive, saying things like, "Is the air conditioning too cold? Please let us know anytime if you feel chilly." I visited Okayama on this trip, and the great drinks and food made me feel so happy, so I’d love to come again if I have the chance!

Every dish was delicious, and maybe because we went early, the food came out quickly! The sawara (Spanish mackerel) lightly seared sashimi, yakitori (grilled chicken skewers), and everything else was reasonably priced. We ended up eating a little too much. The staff were also very friendly, and my family talked about how glad we were to have gone to such a nice place.

The Okayama Prefecture local dish mamakari namasu (vinegared small fish) is one of the restaurant's recommended items.

It is made by pickling small fish from the herring family in vinegar, and the name comes from how good it is said to be, good enough to borrow rice for, but it also pairs well with Japanese sake.

さつまいもパン田

I was glad I got to eat lots of great seafood. The portions for each dish are not that large, so I think it is a good place for a quick drink too. I would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Kurashiki.

Each dish was carefully made, and in true sushi restaurant style, you could really taste the umami of the dashi, with gentle yet clear flavors that were all satisfying. This is a place I’d like to go drinking at again with a big group.

かるあんつー

They are known for their chicken tsukune (chicken meatballs) and oden (Japanese stew), so we had those along with a Hot Pot and yakitori (grilled chicken skewers). The daikon radish in the oden was about half a whole piece in size! It was tender, full of flavor, and very tasty. It was a calm izakaya (Japanese pub), and it seemed to have Private rooms in various sizes.

The non-alcoholic cocktail, Muscat Squash, had real muscat grapes in it! As you would expect from Okayama Prefecture, a production region for muscat grapes and peaches! What was especially good was the stewed pork and summer vegetable Hot Pot. Unusually for a hot pot, it had okra in it, and amazingly, there was tsumire (minced fish ball) hidden inside the okra!! That was so fun〜.
