Tempura Kunihisa

Tempura Kunihisa is a hideaway restaurant located a 5-minute walk from Kamejima Station on the Nagoya Municipal Subway Higashiyama Line. It is known for serving seasonal flavors, with tempura at the center.

The quiet interior is said to have counter seats and a table for 4.

There is no fixed menu, and they offer two types of Omakase courses. In the courses, you can enjoy seasonal tempura along with seasonal a la carte dishes.

The tempura uses Special ingredients, including seafood sourced from Ise-wan (Ise Bay) in Mie Prefecture and Mikawa-wan (Mikawa Bay) in Aichi Prefecture.

The tempura served in the first half of the course uses a restrained amount of sesame oil, giving it a light taste. They also take care to gradually bring out more of the sesame oil aroma in the second half.

They are also particular about the thickness of the batter, which helps bring out the flavor of the ingredients.

It was packed with the flavors of fall and tasted amazing. The kisu (Japanese whiting) tempura and hon-shishamo (true shishamo smelt) tempura were tender and delicious. The ichijiku (fig) and shibukawa-guri (chestnuts with the inner skin left on) tempura were unusual, but delicious and absolutely wonderful thank you

You can enjoy a wide variety of tempura, from shrimp to vegetables. In particular, the oysters from Himakajima (an island in Aichi Prefecture) are Surprising in size. They are milky inside, and salt goes especially well with them. There was also tentsuyu (tempura dipping sauce), but basically salt tastes best.

・Tempura assortment
The batter is crisp, not greasy at all, and easy to keep eating. Personally, I thought the best combo was mentaiko (spicy pollock roe) dashimaki (Japanese rolled omelet) with the otoshi (small appetizer) of jako-oroshi (whitebait and grated daikon).

Choosing a course where you can enjoy sushi, tempura, and otsumami (small dishes to enjoy with drinks) was absolutely the right call‼️The sushi featured carefully selected toppings, including local catch, just like the name Nihon no Umi (Sea of Japan) suggests, and the tempura was fried light and crisp, with a crunchy outside and tender texture inside.

Two kinds of tempura: young corn and shrimp. These were surprisingly fairly standard, but when they come out between pieces of sushi, they are warm and somehow comforting.
