[Chuo and Minato Wards, Tokyo] Restaurants Where You Can Enjoy robatayaki (fireside charcoal grilling)

Robata to Motsuni En

Robata Tomo to Motsuni En is a well-reviewed restaurant known for its full lineup of dishes that go well with drinks, including robatayaki (fireside-grilled dishes) made with seasonal ingredients, motsuni (stewed offal), and yakitori.

It is conveniently located a 3-minute walk from JR Tamachi Station and Mita Station, yet it is said to have a hideaway feel away from the bustle of the city. Private rooms are also available.

They offer a full lineup of robatayaki (fireside grill) dishes slowly finished over charcoal, and both the meat and seafood are said to be very good.

The photo shows “Ootoro iwashi (extra fatty sardine) no maruyaki (whole grilled) Aburi Mentaiko (seared spicy cod roe) Nose.” It is said to be an interesting combination of rich sardine topped with mentaiko, with a bold flavor.

They have a great lineup of Japanese sake, and many people seem to enjoy pairing it with the food. They also offer plenty of à la carte dishes that go well with Japanese sake.

Their signature “aka miso (red miso) motsu nikomi (stewed offal),” simmered for a long time, is said to be rich with no off notes, and its tender texture is hard to resist.

A colleague invited me here, and first off, the famous motsuni (stewed offal) was way better than I expected. It was simmered well with no off notes, and the rich miso flavor went perfectly with drinks. The robatayaki (fireside grilling) was also nicely fragrant, and I enjoyed a good balance of vegetables and fish. The atmosphere inside was lively yet relaxing, making it perfect for a drink after work.

With robatayaki (fireside grilling), you should usually go for fish, but I couldn’t take my eyes off the ika no ichiyaboshi (overnight dried squid). This first. For someone who loves squid more than anything, ichiyaboshi is a hero. If it is this size even after grilling, it must have been huge to begin with. I had not had ichiyaboshi this good in a long time. It is very filling, and the rich squid flavor really bursts out. It went beyond my expectations.

もしとよ

This is in Tokyo Midtown, but it is a beautiful spot with a view looking down over Tokyo Station from the window. Since robatayaki (fireside grilling) seems to be the specialty, I ordered the grilled dried hokke (Atka mackerel) set meal. Because they grill it over the robata and serve it fresh, it takes a little time to arrive, but the hokke that came out was very fresh, and the grilling was as perfect as it could be. The seasoning was also light, so I could really taste the natural savory flavor of the hokke.

Front Row

Robata Koen is close to Tokyo Station, and its convenient location is part of the appeal. It is easy to stop by after work or between sightseeing, and the Japanese sake is full of aroma and pairs perfectly with the fish dishes. Not only the seafood, but the other dishes were also very tasty and made the most of the ingredients' natural flavor. The atmosphere was calm, and being so close to the station made it easy to enjoy a luxurious time.

This restaurant focuses on fish and grills it robatayaki-style (fireside grilling), and everything I tried was good. I always end up ordering the tsukune (chicken meatballs), and that is great too. The onions are also tasty. They also have a wide selection of drinks to enjoy. It is a restaurant I would like to visit again.

Kei Channel (576e15)

We got seats at the counter, so there were lots of fresh ingredients right in front of us, and when it comes to robata (fireside grill cooking), we spotted a big whole hokke (Atka mackerel). We ordered it right away, and it came out juicy and nicely grilled. The other dishes, including hotate (scallop), jaga butter (buttered potato), and dashimaki tamago (Japanese rolled omelet), were all delicious, and we finished with onigiri (rice balls), leaving us very Manzoku. Our friends were also very Manzoku with the Japanese robata experience. The dining room was clean too, which left a good impression.

ふみゅ666

There are some unusual items too at this robatayaki (fireside grilling) spot with a focus on seafood. We grilled vegetables, sake harasu (salmon belly), and kibinago (silver-stripe round herring) robatayaki-style. The ones that really hit the spot for me were the house-made freshly fried satsuma-age (fried fish cake) and buta no kakuni tempura. The satsuma-age had a thin, crisp outer layer. The inside was very light and airy, making it perfect with a drink.

This time, I went with the Hibiki Course. The food quality is way beyond what you would expect from an izakaya (Japanese pub). It was honestly amazing✨This place is known for its sumibi-yaki (charcoal grilling), and they even served charcoal grilled early-season takenoko (bamboo shoots)❣️The kinmedai (golden eye snapper) was fragrant on the outside and juicy inside. key-key

This restaurant lets you enjoy fresh, high quality seafood and vegetables grilled over charcoal on a large wire mesh. On-the-Day, the counter seats on the first floor were full, so we sat in the ozashiki (tatami seating area) on the second floor. The large hokke (Atka mackerel) had crispy grill marks and plump flesh inside, with lots of deep flavor. For a change of pace, we ordered jaga butter (buttered potato), topped with ika no shiokara (salted fermented squid), and were surprised by its richness and full flavor. The bold atmosphere and careful service made the visit even better.

K’real

There is a wide variety of drinks, and the atmosphere makes it easy to end up drinking a little too much. The otoshi (small appetizer) was sashimi. That was a nice surprise. Every snack dish was creative and tasty. The grilled fish of the day was also top notch, cooked just right and really showing the appeal of robatayaki (fireside grill cooking). A place like this is very valuable, and I think anyone you bring here will be happy.

I visited for a get-together with friends. They had a full robatayaki (fireside grill) menu centered on seafood. The fish came out boldly as a whole fish, and the Iwanaka-buta (Iwanaka pork) was also fun to eat with lots of yakumi (condiments) for changing up the flavor. They also have a big drink menu, so I recommend it because you can try things you may have never had before!

This is a robatayaki (Japanese-style fireside grill) restaurant described as Japanese-style BBQ. The table with an irori (sunken hearth) in the house-like restaurant is lovely. The place has a really great atmosphere. This was my second visit. I heard the chef used to be the head chef at Nadaman. The colorful Appetizers were beautiful, and the carefully prepared BBQ and menchi-katsu (Japanese minced meat cutlet) were so good. The calm atmosphere is really nice.

The food was delicious. They have a wide selection of Japanese sake, and I really enjoyed it. They also have spacious Private rooms, and the calm atmosphere made it easy to relax and talk at length. The menu centers on fish dishes, and along with sashimi, the standout is the whole grilled fish. The rice served at the end also felt very high end. The course alone was not enough, so I ordered extra dishes such as a sausage assortment, and that was outstanding too.
