Shunzakana Hideka, an easy stop near Aomori Station, is an izakaya Japanese-style pub popular for its homey atmosphere that keeps local customers coming back.
They also offer a wide selection of local sake that you can enjoy along with fresh seafood and Aomori Prefecture’s regional dishes.

Aomori has a wide variety of local dishes made with regional ingredients, and one of them is “hotate no kaiyaki miso (miso flavored egg dish cooked in a scallop shell).”
This miso flavored egg dish is served in a hotate shell and is said to be perfect as a snack to go with drinks.

With a focus on local Aomori Japanese sake such as Denshu and Houhai, they offer about 100 kinds of Japanese sake.
For snacks, the super fresh seafood is also recommended, including the catch of the day in the tsukuri assortment and hon-maguro (bluefin tuna) sashimi.

I visited after hearing they had a great selection of local sake, but more than the number of labels, what really stood out was the amazing range of specs for Aomori’s classic sake brands: Denshu, Houhai, and Hassen. They have dozens of varieties from these breweries alone, and probably because some are so rare, they even stock ultra high-end bottles. I was also happy to see that the menu carefully described the characteristics of each sake.

・Igamenchi (Tsugaru-style squid fritter)
A local dish from the Tsugaru region. It contains finely chopped vegetables such as carrot, squid, and geso (squid tentacles). The ingredients are mixed with flour, shaped into rounds, and deep-fried. You eat it with mayonnaise or salt. If you come to Aomori, this is a must-try item.

In addition to Japanese sake that pairs well with washoku (Japanese cuisine), they offer a wide selection of drinks including wine and cocktails, so you can match them with each dish.
Besides local Japanese sake from the Tohoku region, they also carry well-known labels such as Dassai from Yamaguchi.
The sushi was delicious. We booked the cheapest course meal for 5 people, and the timing of the food service was just right. The All you can drink menu was also extensive, and it made me want to come back again. The staff were also cheerful and polite. They also had menu items from Aomori Prefecture, and I felt you could really enjoy Aomori right here.

The sashimi was fresh and thick cut, and I could really taste the quality of the ingredients. The grilled and simmered dishes were also seasoned with a refined touch and paired perfectly with alcohol. The lineup of Japanese sake was especially extensive, and it was appealing to be able to choose one to match the food. The service was polite and pleasant, and the comfortable atmosphere stood out. Overall, the level of Manzoku was high.

In Aomori Prefecture, which faces the Pacific Ocean, the Sea of Japan, and Mutsu Bay, a wide variety of seafood is landed.
The "sashimi assortment" adds color to the table and also makes a great snack with drinks. Be sure to enjoy it with a glass from an Aomori sake brewery.

Among the dishes made with local ingredients, regulars especially recommend kaiyaki miso (miso grilled in a shell). Since you finish cooking it yourself, you can enjoy it fresh off the grill.
The “Nihon no Takara Mutsuwan-san Hotate (Katsu Hotate) Kaisen Kaiyaki Miso” is said to be a luxurious dish topped with sea urchin and crab.

・Strawberry Soup Zosui
Mitsuishi's ichigo-ni (sea urchin and scallop soup) is packed with uni (sea urchin) and hotate (scallops). The broth is like ushiojiru (clear seafood soup), with a light Fresh Scent of the Ocean. Add rice and egg to make zosui (rice porridge), and you just know it is going to be good. On a cold Aomori night, the flavor really sank in.

I visited with a local. The seafood was just great, especially the sashimi, ika no goro-yaki (grilled squid with rich innards), and kai-yaki (grilled shellfish). It was my first time trying kai-yaki with uni (sea urchin), and it felt like a luxurious combination. The Japanese sake selection was also impressive, including local Denshu. I also had Aomori's specialty garlic, served whole and roasted.

Nebuta no Kuni Takakyu is a popular restaurant known for its live performances of Tsugaru shamisen, which has its roots in the Tsugaru region of Aomori Prefecture, and nebuta-bayashi (festival music performed during the Aomori Nebuta Festival).
As this restaurant is by reservation only, it is best to book for a time that matches the performance schedule.

I visited Nebuta no Kuni Takakyu. At this restaurant, you can enjoy local dishes while listening to live performances of Tsugaru shamisen (traditional three-stringed instrument from Tsugaru) and minyo (Japanese folk songs)! あきたマシュミ
Here too, of course, we went with an assorted sashimi platter. While enjoying a sashimi assortment for two with eight kinds and two slices each, we recommend draft beer, and for Japanese sake, the dry "Kamekichi" and "Shichiriki." The sake carafe and ochoko (small sake cups) are really nice. They are served ice cold. You find yourself bringing it to your lips saying, "Isn't this expensive?"

Whatever you order is good at Hoidoya, a fresh seafood and creative dining spot. On this day too, I had a lot of fresh sashimi and creative dishes, including sashimi prepared with the legendary blood draining technique, and every one of them was delicious. The recommendation is meat dishes from Aomori Prefecture. Among them, the brand beef Kuraishi-gyu (Kuraishi beef), served on the restaurant's original kawarayaki (tile grilling), is especially popular.
For kawarayaki, they heat kawara (traditional Japanese roof tiles) often used on Japanese house roofs, and diners grill the ingredients on top just the way they like.

Sushi and meat are the ultimate combination. The atmosphere of the restaurant is really nice, the head chef is great, and the whole staff is energetic and keeps the place lively. Of course, the food was also very delicious. As for the tuna, just what you would expect from Aomori (Aomori Prefecture) — even though it was called akami (lean tuna), the quality was already at the level of chutoro (medium fatty tuna) or better.

There is no doubt about it. That one line says it all. Even the first-time members of our group were very satisfied. First of all, even the tsukidashi (small appetizer) was excellent. As you’d expect from a popular spot…when I arrived at my reservation time, I was already passing people who had clearly had a good time… The interior was clean and nice. Private rooms divided by fusuma (sliding paper partitions). There was some nice table-side performance too, with dishes brought out on piping hot stones and others seared with a burner right in front of me. Hachinohe City in Aomori Prefecture, facing the Pacific Ocean, is one of the prefecture’s leading port towns, and Nanbu Mingei Ryori Kura in Hachinohe is known as a place where you can dine around an irori (traditional sunken hearth) and enjoy a meal in a distinctly Japanese setting.
It is also in a convenient location about a 10-minute walk from Hon-Hachinohe Station, and some reviews said that if you stop by here while sightseeing in Aomori, you can enjoy a full range of local specialties all in one place.

Ichigo-ni (sea urchin and abalone clear soup) is a clear soup made with premium sea urchin and abalone. It has no off notes, and the Fresh Scent of the Ocean is said to be wonderful.
This traditional dish from Hachinohe is often eaten at celebratory gatherings such as New Year in the local area.

senbei-jiru (cracker soup) is also one of the local specialty dishes loved in Hachinohe. It is made by simmering Nanbu senbei (traditional wheat crackers) in broth.
They also serve Japanese sake from Hachinohe, so you can enjoy it like an izakaya. One Tabelog reviewer mentioned drinking it from a Nanbu tetsubin (cast iron kettle).

One striking touch is the old style of “tapping a wooden board” when you want to call the staff. It fits the atmosphere perfectly and makes you feel as if you’ve stepped back in time. The food brings together local Aomori tastes, including fresh seafood, jidori (free-range local chicken), and mountain produce. The dishes are simple but carefully made, and the fish grilled over the irori (sunken hearth) and the country-style cooking are especially good.

Since it was Nanbu folk cuisine, I enjoyed it with Japanese sake, which I do not usually drink. The ichigo-ni (sea urchin and abalone soup) was especially outstanding. This rich soup with uni and abalone was a real treat, and above all the uni was sweet. They also served soft roe, namako (sea cucumber), and hokkigai (surf clam). Everything paired well with Japanese sake. Drinking Japanese sake from a Nambu Tekki (Nanbu ironware) teapot in front of the irori (sunken hearth) of the old folk house had a fantastic atmosphere. It was delicious. good

Izakaya (Japanese-style pub) Hachinohe Sakaba Ginga, in the center of Hon-Hachinohe, has a glass-front entrance that gives it an easy, walk-in feel.

A recommendation is the thick cut maguro (tuna) sashimi, with its beautiful lean red meat. The moist, melt-in-your-mouth maguro is said to spread rich umami and sweetness across your palate.
Besides A la carte options, a gorgeous sashimi assortment that includes hon-maguro (Pacific bluefin tuna) is also popular.

They offer not only local Japanese sake from Aomori Prefecture, but also carefully selected labels from outside the prefecture.
Japanese sake served generously in a masu (wooden sake cup), or slowly enjoyed from a tokkuri (traditional sake flask) with a narrow spout and rounded body, also has a nice traditional Japanese feel.

I visit every time I go to Hachinohe! I recommend the prefecture-produced sashimi assortment ♪ The soft roe had zero off notes, and the tuna lean cut was excellent! The nagaimo (Japanese yam) steak was also delicious〜There are so many dishes that go well with Japanese sake that I ended up drinking too much lol I’ll definitely go again!!

As expected, the tuna from Hachinohe (a city in Aomori) is on a different level❣️It just melts in your mouth, with none of the tuna’s usual off notes at all, and all I can say is that it was sweet and delicious. The scallops grilled with kani miso (crab tomalley) and even the Kara-age were excellent too. I really got to enjoy Hachinohe. It felt like I came to Hachinohe just to visit this place. It was a great meal

Sumibiyaki Tori Gochi is a yakitori restaurant with a hideaway feel, tucked away a little from the busy downtown area.
Reviews say the owner and staff are friendly and easy to talk to, so you can enjoy a comfortable meal at the counter. The restaurant also has tatami seating and fully private rooms.

Yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) is a dish made by skewering cut pieces of chicken, seasoning them, and grilling them.
At this restaurant, each skewer is prepared by hand one by one, and the heat is adjusted based on the condition of the meat and charcoal. For seasoning, you can choose either their additive-free homemade tare (sauce) or salt.

In addition to yakitori (grilled chicken skewers), they offer a wide range of izakaya dishes, including root vegetables and motsu (offal) simmered with spicy miso in the dish called "motsu-nikomi (offal stew)".
There is also a large selection of drinks, including highballs with extra-strong carbonation and seasonal Japanese sake, making it easy to choose something that suits the food or your mood.

From the first bite of the yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) served right away, I could tell they handle the meat with care‼︎It had a nice springy bite and just the right amount of juiciness, and the way they grilled it without charring it too much, keeping it moist, made it taste reliably good‼︎The salt was just right too, and the more I ate, the more pleasantly the flavor of the meat came through♪

The interior has a calm atmosphere. I started with yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) and drinks. On this day, they had Yamazaki and Hakushu highballs, which I enjoyed as a nice treat. I had the yakitori with tare sauce, and everything I tried was delicious. Personally, I still think the liver was the best. Great yakitori and great drinks made it an excellent meal! I’d definitely love to visit again.

"Matsuzen" is an izakaya known for its good seafood dishes and Japanese sake.
About a 3-minute walk from JR Hachinohe Station, it looks like an easy stop even while waiting for the Shinkansen. There are counter seats and a koagari (raised tatami seating area), so you can use it according to your group size.
The “Namida-maki (tears roll) 1 roll” is a nori roll with chopped wasabi inside. It’s said to be a popular item with a strong wasabi kick that lives up to its name.
Another recommended dish is the “shime saba (cured mackerel) sashimi 1 plate” made with brand mackerel. It is house-made using the simple method of salt and vinegar, which brings out the quality of the fish.

Some reviews say they have a wide selection of Japanese sake, and some guests chose this restaurant specifically for the Japanese sake.
They offer a broad range of local Hachinohe Japanese sake, including well known labels, so it is also a good idea to taste small amounts of different brands at the same time and compare them.

The Most Popular menu item, namida-maki (tear-inducing sushi roll), was literally so spicy it brought tears to my eyes (;ω;)I had "Hachitsuru" and "Mutsu Otokoyama" to drink. Both are local sake from Hachinohe. I really enjoyed the good food and sake.

They had a Japanese sake tasting flight, so I ordered that. Three kinds of Japanese sake came out! They were all good, and they paired really well with the sashimi I ordered as a snack. I had been walking around all day and was completely worn out, so I could not drink that much, but both the drinks and the food were delicious.
