I visited for the first time in two years, and the experience was even more impressive than before. While the course price has increased, the portions have also become much more generous, leaving me completely satisfied. Sushi Gyoten is renowned for its maguro, and I enjoyed five exceptional pieces in a row. Every other piece of sushi was equally outstanding, making for a truly memorable meal from start to finish.

Kotan

Kotan is a discreet sushi restaurant located just a 2-minute walk from Sakurazaka Station, nestled in a quiet residential neighborhood.

You can enjoy authentic Edomae-style sushi crafted by Mr. Noguchi, who hails from Itoshima City in Fukuoka Prefecture. After honing his skills at renowned restaurants in Tokyo, Mr. Noguchi opened Kotan in November 2021.

The sushi is prepared using carefully selected seafood, sourced each morning from Nagahama Fish Market and Yanagibashi Rengo Market in Fukuoka City.

Each piece of sushi is carefully crafted, offering a simple yet deeply satisfying flavor.

The rice is cooked to a firm texture with a pronounced tangy taste. Many note that the grains are large and provide a substantial bite.

On this day, I visited Kotan in Sakurazaka. It was a perfect autumn day to enjoy exquisite sushi. The highlights were the kohada (gizzard shad), seared sawara (Spanish mackerel), and sillago. The vinegared rice was expertly prepared, and every piece was truly delicious—leaving me feeling completely satisfied and happy.
