とある土曜日夕方、近所の喫茶店でのちょっとした打ち合わせの後、どこで食事をするかしばし迷い、お店に縁のある同行者に連れられて急遽こちらへ訪れる中年男女6名。
お洒落な雰囲気のお店で、他の来店客は程々にシックな装いの方々であったが、我々はめちゃくちゃ普段着。河岸勤めであるわたしの飲み友達Yちゃんなどは仕事着のままである。
迎えてくださった給仕の方に飲み物をオーダーし乾杯。その日にオーダーできる料理は黒板に書き込まれておるのだが、この黒板は超絶見にくくてしょうがない。質問をしないとどんな料理なのかもよくわからないのだが、きさくにお答えいただけるようだ。
そんなやり取りをしていると、オーナーシェフが厨房から出てきて挨拶をしてくれた。
シェフの見た目は濃い顔立ちで甘いマスク、テナー声で、いたずら心あふれるユーモア交じりにメニューを語るちょっと面白い人。合間あいまに厨房から顔を出して、料理のサーブをしてくれたりもする。
そんな雰囲気なので、リラックスして料理も酒も楽しめた。
オーダーしたのは主に魚介を使用した料理で、華やかな見た目と魚介の旨みを生かした調理法。看板メニューの「鯛のかま焼き」は、シェフ自ら食べやすくカットしてくださり、箸で食べるようにと言われる。
幸せの「鯛のタイ」を取り分けて、後でキレイにして持たせてくれるとのお話だったのだか、食事の後シェフにねだって出してもらったグラッパを皆で飲んでいたら、ベロベロに酔っ払って忘れてきてしまう。
酒の飲み過ぎで、しあわせを手にし損ねてしまった。
