I made a reservation in advance to match the opening hours, and as soon as I arrived, the seats were quickly filled at this popular restaurant.
To start, I ordered the seasonal Mizuho Hiyama and a draft beer (for my companion), along with the Nozawana potato salad, sea bream and shungiku carpaccio, and an assorted tempura platter via QR code.
The Nozawana potato salad was delightful with the contrasting textures of the potatoes and the Nozawana. The carpaccio of sea bream and shungiku was incredibly delicious, as the unique bitterness of the shungiku enhanced the rich flavor of the thick sea bream and oil.
The assorted tempura was exceptional, truly reflecting the quality of a soba restaurant! The crispy texture was perfect, with the shrimp being plump, the maitake mushrooms and eggplant juicy, and the perilla leaves fragrant.
After that, I enjoyed the soba restaurant's pizza with Shinshu miso sauce and edamame aglio e olio, which were both exquisite! The pizza had soba incorporated into the dough, giving it a wonderfully fragrant aroma when baked, and it had a galette-like texture and flavor. The juiciness of the mushrooms and green onions was enveloped by the cheese, complemented by the savory taste of bacon. Topping it with the shichimi recommended by the staff created a perfect balance, making it incredibly delicious.
The edamame aglio e olio was a first-time experience, and since it was served hot, my fingers got a bit hot, but it was absolutely fantastic! I think it pairs perfectly not only with beer but also with the selection of Japanese sake available.
Since I was in Nagano, I also enjoyed Masumi and Juroku-dai with my meal.
There were so many delicious menu items and the portion sizes were satisfying, so unfortunately, I couldn't make it to the soba this time. I hope to reach the soba next time!
It was a great meal!
