After a long time, I enjoyed a day at the Karuizawa Outlet, and I decided to visit this new restaurant that had caught my attention.
It seems to be a place specializing in dishes made with dashi (broth).
What I ordered was:
- Grilled Shinshu Pork Set Meal for me
- Set Meal with Shinshu Salmon Sashimi and Grilled Salmon for my companion
At JPY 2080 and JPY 2180, the prices are quite high for this location, which raised my expectations.
But to cut to the chase, I won't be coming back!
The only dish that had a hint of dashi was the soba dipping sauce in a small bowl, but the miso soup was ordinary, the dried daikon had no homemade feel and tasted mass-produced, and the pork lacked flavor and was tough.
The only good part was the Shinshu salmon, but that doesn't really relate to the dashi! (laughs)
If you're going to promote dashi, I wish you would utilize its flavor consistently from the small dishes to the soup.
Honestly, even a set meal featuring just small dishes with good dashi could be satisfying, but unfortunately, this place was a bit (no, quite) disappointing. (I'm using the heart emoji wrong!)
