After having lunch at Karuizawa Ginza, I took a leisurely stroll through the area... I headed to the hotel just in time for check-in, located in a prime spot on Karuizawa's main street!
The hotel where I stayed is the Koyu Club Karuizawa Salon, a members-only hotel operated by JTCC (Japan Total Club).
The spacious lobby feels like a grand European setting, and the lounge is absolutely luxurious!
Since it was just my wife and me, we opted for the regular twin room.
Although it was a regular twin, it features a spacious sofa comparable to those in international hotels.
The view of the forest from our room was delightful...
The hotel facilities include a pool, sauna, and Roman-style bath (large communal bath).
Now, the highlight of the high-end salon series of Japan Total Club is the dining experience!
Dinner at Karuizawa Salon features creative French cuisine, focused on seasonal ingredients from Shinshu, offering a course that perfectly embodies the essence of Karuizawa!
You can choose from two options for both meat and fish dishes!
While waiting for dinner, I enjoyed some wine in the room, and opted for a beer.
The beer is Elderflower Ale from Quarter Brewing Co., located on Karuizawa's main street.
Elderflower Ale is characterized by its refreshing flavor and fruity aroma!
**Appetizers**
● Nagano Prefecture's Ginjo Pork Ham and Lobster, accompanied by a mousse of Tsuchida Farm's short-form natural yams with vanilla aroma and a hint of passion fruit!
● Bread
Two types of delicious, freshly baked bread: whole grain and baguette, with extra servings available!
**Soup**
● Chilled soup of white asparagus from Chikuma City, paired with compote of peach-scented strawberries.
**Fish Dishes**
My chosen fish dish:
● Lightly cooked cherry salmon from Azumino City, served with Karuizawa-grown rhubarb, topped with snow crab.
My wife's chosen fish dish:
● Natural sea bream and Chikuma asparagus with morel mushrooms and tomato cream.
**Meat Dishes**
We both chose the same dish from the two options:
● Suffolk lamb from the Sugadaira Highlands Davos Ranch with carrots, featuring a fragrance of straw.
This innovative dish allows you to enjoy two different lamb preparations with both Western and Japanese seasonings!
The rare Suffolk lamb from Sugadaira Highlands Davos Ranch is wrapped in straw and baked in the oven, resulting in succulent meat infused with the aroma of the straw.
**Dessert**
● Blancmange made from Wakakusa tea from Tenryu Village, served with cherry gelato and grapefruit sorbet.
After coffee, the course was completed.
I was thoroughly satisfied with this extraordinary meal that I usually don't indulge in!!
And for breakfast... despite a cloudy sky, the window-side seat felt pleasant...
I could choose between Western-style or rice porridge, and I opted for Western-style.
For the egg dish, I chose an omelet over fried eggs.
Drinks were available in choices of tomato juice, orange juice, or apple juice.
The breakfast layout was simple, starting with salad.
The mushroom consomme soup was deep and delicious!
The omelet was plain, and I topped it with ketchup to my liking...
The bread included toast and Earl Grey bread.
The omelet's soft and moist cooking was perfect!
The yogurt came with cranberry jam, with fruits including melon, pineapple, and grapes.
I enjoyed a comforting coffee after the meal.
I thought it’d be light, but given my usual breakfast is on the lighter side, I felt thoroughly satisfied!
I spent my time leisurely until check-out...
