| Remarks |
We are a Western-style restaurant located in the Karuizawa Prince Shopping Plaza. You can enjoy lunch and dinner with us. Our Yoshoku, a unique aspect of Japanese food culture, is a delightful "feast" featuring delicious kamadaki rice and side dishes made with local ingredients. |
During my stay at a villa in Karuizawa, I usually buy most of my ingredients from the Tsuruya Karuizawa store, so I don’t eat out much. However, since I stopped by the outlet, I decided to have an early dinner at this restaurant. Being a resort area, I often expect disappointing experiences, but I went in anyway. I ordered the Gourmet Selection, which included Hamburg Steak, Snow Crab Cream Croquette, Butter Chicken Curry, Potato Salad, and a Soft-Boiled Egg on one plate, along with the Hamburg Steak.
The standout dish was definitely the Snow Crab Cream Croquette. The combination of crab meat and white sauce was delightful, and the flavors of crab and sauce spread beautifully in my mouth. The Butter Chicken Curry was a bit on the spicy side, but the aroma of butter and its mildness made it enjoyable.
As for the Hamburg Steak, it was somewhat ambiguous in flavor—it's unclear whether they aimed for a rich taste or a lighter one. It lacked a punch, and I think it would be better without the Japanese-style seasoning. While I understand the intention of balancing the overall dish, it felt a bit half-hearted. I was also puzzled by the soft-boiled egg. What is the best way to enjoy it? The salad had a dressing that was too acidic, making it ineffective as a palate cleanser.
The presentation of the consomme soup, resembling miso soup, raised many questions, but the staff at the restaurant were very pleasant.
