Located just a five-minute walk from Nakakaruizawa Station, "Enishiya" might be a bit challenging for tourists to find, as it's tucked away on a side street before reaching Hoshino Resort. This izakaya also serves lunch, with many menu items priced under JPY 1000, which is a great help for locals. Additionally, lunch guests can enjoy unlimited soft drinks, including coffee, making it quite a deal.
The interior features a counter that seats around five, a few table seats, and a spacious tatami area in the back.
I visited at 1 PM and ordered the curry udon for JPY 850. Noodle dishes come with free rice. The last order for lunch is at 1:30 PM, and the restaurant closes at 2 PM. There were about ten customers in the restaurant, but my food was served in under ten minutes. I ordered a Coke while waiting. The curry udon had a broth that was flavorful and thin, filled with plenty of onions and pork, and while the noodles tasted frozen, the overall balance was good and delicious. Halfway through my meal, I ordered another Coke. The complimentary rice was fresh and perfectly cooked, not dry at all.
I quickly finished my meal and topped it off with a self-serve hot coffee, which is freshly ground each time. Having two Cokes, coffee, curry udon, and rice for a total of JPY 850, it’s quite affordable for the area.
If you find yourself in Karuizawa and tired of the usual dining options, I highly recommend visiting "Enishiya". By the way, there is parking available for two cars in front of the restaurant and over ten spots in the back.

I came to Ishokuan Enishiya with a local friend.
We ended up here after our first choice was fully booked.
The starter was Kinpira Gobo, which was a bit disappointing.
We ordered a tofu dish as a snack and were surprised to find it came whole for JPY 600—definitely filling!
The top recommendation is the half roast chicken, which is truly delicious for just over JPY 1000.
Also, they offer a drink-all-you-can option for JPY 1600 for 100 minutes, and we took advantage of that to drink as much as we wanted.
The drink-all-you-can plan is definitely a great deal!

I visited Ishokuan Enishiya, an izakaya located about a 5-minute walk from Nakakaruizawa Station on the Shinano Railway, with my family of three.
First, we ordered a large bottle of Ebisu beer for JPY 950 through the tablet.
The appetizer was Kinpira Gobo for JPY 350.
While enjoying the beer, we also ordered the Enishiya Salad for JPY 1200 and the restaurant's recommended dish, Torisanzoku-yaki (buckwheat) for JPY 1200.
Since we finished the large bottle of beer quickly, we decided to order the "Senbero Plan," which is a 60-minute all-you-can-drink option without beer.
Both the Enishiya Salad and the Sanzoku-yaki were quite substantial.
While enjoying shochu and sour drinks from the all-you-can-drink menu, we added more snacks, ordering Garlic Stir-fried Edamame for JPY 480 and Agedashi Tofu for JPY 700.
The restaurant was fully booked, but they managed to serve the food and drinks just in time.
Every dish was delicious.
We indulged in the all-you-can-drink plan, and our total bill came to JPY 8,580.
