Located about 10 minutes by car from Karuizawa Station, 'Yasai ga Oishii Restaurant LONGING HOUSE Karuizawa' is attached to the Karuizawa Hotel LONGING HOUSE.
The head chef, who is also a vegetable sommelier, personally visits various specialized farms across the country to handpick and ensure the quality of the vegetables served.
In addition to vegetable dishes, the menu also features locally sourced ingredients such as Tateshina beef and salmon that can only be enjoyed in the Shinshu area.
The spacious interior, with around 120 seats, allows guests to dine while enjoying the vibrant greenery, embodying the essence of Karuizawa. There is also a designated space for dining with dogs.
Today, I visited for lunch by reservation. There are three course options, including a four-dish course lunch (JPY 4,800), a five-dish course lunch (JPY 6,800), and a Tateshina beef course lunch (JPY 8,800), along with a curry lunch set (from JPY 2,680).
Many patrons ordered the curry, which looked appealing with a colorful presentation and generous portions.

First, I settled my stomach with the green smoothie and headed to the vegetable buffet in a separate room. Although not a vast selection, the rich and creamy miso dressing and the dressing loaded with grated vegetables were delightful! Crispy sliced onions and walnuts could also be added for extra flavor. I became so fond of the miso dressing that I bought a bottled version (JPY 1,000) on my way out.
The bagna cauda was pleasantly salty with anchovy sauce, just as expected, and the miso dressing complemented it well.
The seasonal vegetable terrine was somewhat disappointing due to the strong presence of the leafy greens that surrounded it.
In the main vegetable bounty dish, fried shiitake mushrooms surrounded seven types of boiled vegetables. The shiitake extract was incredibly delicious!
The freshly made teppan cheesecake felt surprisingly less sweet while still hot. The tartness of the rhubarb jam worked effectively to enhance the flavor.
In a cozy and woody ambiance, I was able to enjoy plenty of vegetables and have a delightful time that truly felt like Karuizawa. I look forward to staying at the hotel on my next visit.
