A long-established bakery in Karuizawa for over 80 years! Delicious bread baked in a Spanish stone oven!
Founded in 1933, we established our current location in Old Karuizawa Ginza in 1944, and have been serving customers for over 80 years. Our stone oven-baked bread is exceptional, and we offer many exclusive products available only in Karuizawa. |
In Karuizawa, when it comes to bread, everyone thinks of the long-established bakery, Asano Ya.
While there are now many branches in Tokyo, I still believe the original location in Karuizawa is the best.
Perhaps it's the water that makes the bread taste better!
Although there are two other branches in Karuizawa, the Old Road branch is definitely my recommendation!
They open early in the morning (at 7 AM during the summer), so whenever I visit Karuizawa, I often stop by Asano Ya first.
One charm is that a variety of breads are available right from the opening hour.
Inside the store, staff take your bread orders at the counter.
The top three popular items are displayed prominently, along with limited edition breads exclusive to Karuizawa!
My favorite is the blueberry bread, which is sold by weight, but you can also order by the piece.
A single piece is about JPY 200.
However, the tomato and mozzarella pizza dough that is well-known from commercials is always the number one favorite!
You can also eat in the store, and they sell a few side dishes.
Of course, there are plenty of items perfect for souvenirs, and I even found an eco-bag for the 2014 edition on sale.
The shop has a slightly retro vibe, and it's one of my favorite bakeries.
