Set Meal Restaurant Gyutaro

Teishoku no Mise Gyutaro is a casual eatery located about a 10-minute walk from Kita-18-jo Station, on one corner of Kita 20-jo-dori. It offers a wide menu lineup including set meals and Rice bowls, and the big portions are one of its main draws.

The rice is said to be served piled high in a bowl. There are counter and table seats, and the place gets busy with locals and students around lunchtime.

The classic “gyudon (beef Rice bowl)” is a simple bowl topped with beef, onions, and chopped nori (seaweed). The slightly sweet seasoning soaks in well, making it a flavor that goes perfectly with rice.

It is also recommended to enjoy changing up the flavor, such as adding beni shoga (pickled red ginger) for a refreshing touch or an extra egg for more richness.

The "Katsu Curry set meal" is also one of the popular menu items. This filling plate features curry rice that looks like it might spill off the dish, topped with juicy tonkatsu (pork cutlet).

It comes as a set with a small side dish, salad, and miso soup, and people say its high level of Manzoku is part of the appeal.

・Gyudon (beef Rice bowl)
The gyudon (beef Rice bowl) comes packed into a bowl about the size of a ramen bowl! The toppings are simple: beef, onion, nori, and beni shoga (pickled red ginger) on top. Compared with a certain gyudon chain, the sauce is a bit sweeter, with a well-seasoned but gentle taste.

・Kara-age set meal
Even the small rice comes in a generous portion! Besides the Kara-age, it also comes with small side dishes like shime-saba (pickled mackerel), tofu, and natto (fermented soybeans). The Kara-age is fried up nice and crisp, with good seasoning. Made with chicken thigh, it is juicy and tasty, with no chewy sinew or excess fat to worry about!

Nakau Sapporo Eki Apia Ten

Nakau Sapporo Eki Apia Ten is a nationwide Japanese fast food chain located in the underground shopping area directly connected to Sapporo Station. The menu centers on Rice bowls and Kyoto-style udon, with a wide range of options.

The broth, based on bonito flakes and kombu kelp, is carefully prepared fresh at the restaurant every day. There are counter and table seats, making it an easy place to visit even on your own.

The "Gyu-suki Rice bowl" in the photo is a sukiyaki-style bowl made with beef along with burdock root, onion, and konnyaku (yam cake). They pay close attention to the balance of fat in the beef and the thickness of each slice, adjusting how well it mixes with the sauce.

The toppings are seasoned just right, and they pair perfectly with the rice.

The classic "oyako-don (chicken and egg Rice bowl)" is also a must-try menu item. It uses Special selected chicken and eggs, finished with a secret sauce.

Each bowl is carefully cooked one at a time in a small pot, so you can enjoy the soft texture of the eggs. Adding some sansho (Japanese pepper) from the table is also recommended to sharpen the flavor.

・Beef suki Rice bowl
It looks like it might be better than a gyudon (beef bowl), but when you actually dig in, the seasoning is quite strong without being overly soaked in sauce, so the balance with the plain white rice is just right. Personally, I think I prefer this over gyudon.

・Tsukimi udon (udon with a raw egg)
The aroma of dashi rises softly with the steam... The tender noodles are coated in the broth and go down nice and smoothly. The refined Kansai-style umami spreads gently, like it’s softly waking up your stomach in the morning♪ The egg has a rich, runny yolk, and once it mixes into the udon, it adds a lot more depth.

Nadai Gyumeshi Sapporo Keibajo Ten is a diner in the food court of Sapporo Racecourse, about 5 minutes by car from Soen Station. It is loved as the soul food of Sapporo Racecourse.

There is often a line soon after it opens, and some fans visit just for this taste.

The popular signature menu item, "Nadai Gyumeshi," is a simple bowl of beef and onions seasoned with a sweet and savory flavor. The thick cut onions are simmered until meltingly soft and blend well with the rich taste of the beef.

Those in the know like to top it with an egg for a milder taste.

The "Horumon stew" is another dish you should not miss. It features tender stewed motsu (offal) and konnyaku (firm yam cake), finished with a rich miso-based seasoning.

・Nadai gyu-meshi (signature beef rice bowl)
Drawn by the word "signature," I chose the gyu-meshi. Of course, I had it with a raw egg. I stood there eating it while looking at the paddock and finished it in no time. It was great.

・Horumon stew
To be honest, this is what I come for, not the horse racing. I recommend going early, because you can buy it without waiting in line. With stew in one hand and a beer in the other, you can eat it while making horse racing picks—or at least looking like you are—and enjoy that rough around the edges feel. It comes with green onions, and the rich seasoning is the best. They’ll even ask, “Would you like me to put the green onions on?”

There is also a wide range of toppings, including green onions, grated daikon radish, cheese, and kimchi, so you can enjoy it however you like.

The "Sogyo Beef Curry" in the photo is a carefully made plate, with the rich flavor of beef melted into the roux. They apparently use beef for about one-fifth of the entire roux.

The house blend of spices gives it a nice sharp kick, and the deep flavor is said to keep you coming back for more.

The taste is consistently good, and it is perfect when you want a quick meal. It is an easy, tasty dish to enjoy, and it is Manzoku. The inside of the restaurant is also clean and comfortable, and I recommend it whether you are alone or with friends.

・UmatoMa Hamburger Steak Founding Beef Curry
I tried it for the first time, and it was incredibly good. I thought the tomato and Hamburger Steak might make the tomato flavor really strong, but not at all. Matsuya's beef curry gets just the right touch of tomato acidity, and with the Hamburger Steak, the flavor is fantastic.

・Gyudon (beef Rice bowl)
The gyudon with big chunks of onion really catches the eye. The aroma rising up is enough to make you grin. Then a light makeover with beni shoga (pickled red ginger) and shichimi (seven-spice chili). Yep, this time it came with plenty of broth. I was full and totally Manzoku.
