Hokkaido [Sapporo]: Restaurants with Great Oden

Serori. Odori Ten

"Serori. Odori Ten" is an izakaya centered on oden and seafood dishes, located a 2-minute walk from Tanukikoji Station.

The Japanese-modern interior, based on warm wood tones, offers table seating and Sunken kotatsu seating. They also serve dishes made with Hokkaido ingredients and local sake, so you can relax and enjoy your time in a comfortable space.

The "oden 5-ten mikuroroi (chef’s choice 5-item assortment)" is a plate of assorted items such as well-seasoned daikon radish and large ganmo (fried tofu fritter).

The flavor of the kombu kelp broth gently spreads through each bite, and you can enjoy the different textures of each ingredient. You can also change up the taste with tororo kombu (shredded kombu kelp) and karashi (Japanese mustard). Reviews say the oden alone is highly satisfying.

The photo shows the "Ganso To-meshi." It is the restaurant's signature dish, with tofu that has soaked up plenty of dashi broth served over rice.

The softly simmered tofu gently falls apart in your mouth, with a mild flavor that spreads nicely. It also pairs well with the rice infused with dashi, making it a light dish that goes down easily.

Since it is an oden (Japanese hot pot dish with ingredients simmered in broth) restaurant, I made a reservation with extra oden. I was very Manzoku with the generous amount of oden. I also enjoyed the other dishes, which were all good. I especially liked the udon to finish the meal and the dashimaki tamago (Japanese rolled omelet).

勝たんしかアブラ

The drink menu was extensive, and in addition to Japanese sake and shochu, there were lots of unusual sours, making it an irresistible lineup for people who love to drink. I also had bottled beer, but they even had shochu mixed with oden (Japanese stew) broth, and the lemon sour in particular was carefully made with lemon peel in it and tasted great!

Sapporo Shutou Junjo

Sapporo Sakeno Junjo, located on the second floor of a building inside the Tanukikoji Arcade, is an izakaya visited by many locals as well. It is also easy to get to, just a 5-minute walk from Odori Station.

The interior has a retro feel that creates a nostalgic atmosphere. There are counter seats and Private rooms as well.

Oden (Japanese hot pot with ingredients simmered in broth) seems to offer a wide range of items, from standard ingredients like eggs and daikon radish to seasonal ingredients.

The clear broth is said to have more depth than it looks, with flavor soaking all the way to the center of each ingredient. Some reviews highly praise its comforting taste that gently warms you up.

Besides oden, they also offer grilled dishes, fried dishes, and sashimi, with a wide range of small plates to go with drinks. They also stock Japanese sake and shochu from Hokkaido and other parts of Japan, which is a nice touch since you can choose based on your taste.

The sashimi is said to be cut thick piece by piece, filling your mouth with rich flavor.

The oden with fresh oysters was served on the rare side, rich and milky~♪ I’ve never had anything like this before♡ The sanma (Pacific saury) liver soy sauce namero had a nice seasoning with a faint bitterness from the liver. This also went great with drinks! The other dishes were really tasty too!

ダルゆう

We stopped by without a reservation for an After-Party, but luckily there was an open table. The oden and seri (Japanese parsley) were especially great! The pickle assortment had a really good lineup! The Manganji togarashi (Manganji pepper) was also delicious.

The oden (Japanese hot pot with simmered ingredients) had really tasty broth, the shinko (grilled young chicken) was crispy on the outside and juicy inside, and everything was so good that the two of us tried all kinds of dishes. The oden broth mixed with Japanese sake was also very tasty, so I recommend it♪

Wine and drinks, French oden (Japanese stew) Bistro Banban

"Wain to Osake, Furenchi Oden Bistro Banban" is a creative izakaya-style spot a 5-minute walk from Odori Station, built around the concept of French cuisine × oden (Japanese hot pot dishes).

The interior has a refined feel, but still offers a relaxed atmosphere where you can settle in without feeling formal. They also say you can enjoy new pairings of oden with wine, Japanese sake, and other alcoholic drinks.

The photo shows the "French oden (Japanese stew) 3-item assortment." It is a menu item that lets you enjoy Western touches, with options such as daikon radish porcini, truffle tamagoyaki (Japanese rolled omelet), and chikuwa (tube-shaped fish cake) with salsiccia.

The rich cream sauce and softly fragrant truffle add a nice accent, creating a layered flavor with the savory taste of the dashi broth.

The photo shows “ichigo (strawberry) and cheese wrapped in prosciutto.” It is a well-balanced dish where sweetness, saltiness, and a light tang come together.

The A la carte menu has a bistro-style lineup and is said to be authentic. They also offer an All you can drink option for A la carte orders on certain days of the week, which makes it easy to drop by casually.

We ate a lot of oden and ordered the beef Bolognese pasta. We drank strawberry sparkling wine, orange wine, and yuzu beer. The yuzu beer was very good. It went really well with the oden.

When I passed by the restaurant, the happy hour sign caught my eye, so I decided to stop in. It was my first time trying French oden, and they also had a Japanese sake tasting set, so everything was very good. They also have second-floor seating, and the stylish atmosphere made me want to come back again.

The clear soup combines kombu kelp, bonito, and ago-dashi (flying fish stock), and while it looks light and transparent, it still has plenty of umami. It is served warmed on a tabletop stove, so you can enjoy it piping hot to the very last bite.

The oden (Japanese hot pot dish) lineup includes not only the classics but also unique ingredients like tomatoes.

The tomato, gently infused with dashi broth, is said to be refreshing yet full of its own rich flavor and very tasty. They also have a wide selection of Japanese sake, and they can recommend a glass to match your meal.

The oden (Japanese stew) was warm and comforting and really tasty. The soi (rockfish) sashimi is not something you get to eat very often, and it had a nice richness that made it very delicious. This was a lovely place with many local Japanese sake options as well as many Japanese sake selections from outside Hokkaido.

I also like the broth in the oden (Japanese hot pot). I want you to try the tomato skewer. It comes together in your mouth. They also have good Japanese sake, and you can sample it in a half serving! This is a reliable oden and yakitori restaurant.

I always order the oden, and I definitely get aonori (green laver) and daikon radish. The umeboshi (pickled plum) made in house is also a quiet recommendation. It is large and not too sour. I enjoy having this with Japanese sake.

Since it was the snowy season and cold, I visited because I wanted to eat something that would warm me up. They serve gently seasoned oden (Japanese hot pot dish), as well as kushiyaki (grilled skewers), small plates, and udon (thick wheat noodles). The kushiyaki was cooked just right, and the oden was nicely infused with flavor and very tasty.

For the house specialty oden, we ordered Shiretoko-san (from Shiretoko) whelk, potatoes, and beef tendon! The whelk goes so well with beer. The potatoes and beef tendon are tasty too. What I wanted to try most was the fried Shiretoko-san fish. Freshly fried and hot and flaky, it was amazing with tartar sauce!!

First, I’ll have a bottle of Sapporo Classic and some oden (Japanese stew). The flavor had really soaked in, and it was so good! The charcoal grilled oyadori (mature chicken) and fried tsubugai (whelk) were all great too〜As the conversation flows with the older guy next to me who I’ve never met and the staff I’m meeting for the first time, the night in Shiretoko passes by amid smiles and laughter… This kind of thing is just nice, isn’t it!

The oden (Japanese hot pot with simmered ingredients) is incredibly good! It had a quiet atmosphere, and it was really nice to be able to chat with the owner couple and the other customers. I recommend the daikon radish, shirataki, and hokke (Arabesque greenling) fish balls! When we went as a party of 2, they even cut everything so the two of us could share it properly! Just as expected!

I was really curious about the unusual oden items like tomato and avocado. The classic daikon radish too. I was also interested in the warabi (bracken fern) and ordered it. The well simmered oden paired perfectly with hot sake. Before I knew it, I was having fun chatting with the regulars and spending a great time.
