We each ate one whole kani (crab). It was a great meal, and we got to enjoy its good flavor in all kinds of ways, including kani sashimi (crab sashimi), boiled kani, grilled kani, and kani-shabu (crab hotpot). This is the time of year when you just have to eat kani.

To start with the conclusion, I highly recommend it!!!A crab this big, with such thick legs, is a real showstopper, and I don't think you can easily find one like this in Nagoya. The plump, springy meat is very satisfying to eat, and the portion is more than enough for two people to share.

うめきっさん

Guided by the motto of eating as much crab as possible today‼︎, I hardly ordered any side dishes and focused on the crab lol. The crab had a rich flavor and was delicious, and I kept eating until I was satisfied. As a crab lover, I was completely Manzoku. I’d like to visit again.

Togezuwai-gani (spiny snow crab) has a rich flavor and tastes great! The meat is easy to pull from the shell, so it slips right out and is a pleasure to eat! It really matters when you can get the meat out cleanly! The saltiness comes through nicely, and I just kept eating.

JAC

Just as I was finishing the kobako-gani (female snow crab), the evening’s main dish appeared: a male zuwai-gani (snow crab). It was a fairly large male crab with a tag from Echizen Port. The shell and legs were arranged on the plate, with several pieces of side meat alongside them. Side meat usually has a dry texture and some off notes, but tonight’s male crab came with the manager’s seal of approval, and it was sweet and very tasty.

It comes with the meat neatly flaked off the shell so it is easy to eat, and the flavor has rich umami. My favorite uchiko (rich roe) is also full-bodied, and it tastes great when eaten with the flaked meat☆

まえみょん

The kani-shabu (crab shabu-shabu), hon-tarabagani (red king crab) steak, and kani-sashi (raw crab sashimi) were all excellent. I really hope you try these three dishes. The kani-sashi has a melt-in-your-mouth texture and sweetness, and you could eat as much of it as you want. The crab steak is very thick and has a different kind of sweetness from the sashimi.

The kani (crab) sashimi and grilled kani were the best, and really let us enjoy the crab itself✨The kani Hot Pot also had plenty of crab, so it was the best kind of full-on crab feast. The final zosui (rice porridge) was packed with concentrated crab flavor, so we could enjoy the crab right to the very end!

You can really taste the rich flavor of kani (crab) in every dish, and just like the name suggests, you can fully enjoy a true “kani-zukushi (all-crab feast)”! The kamameshi (rice cooked in an iron pot) in particular had a great aroma, and the fluffy rice was full of the sweet flavor of the crab, making it especially good.

ちっちょ★

You can enjoy all the classic crab dishes here: sashimi, grilled crab, steamed crab, sushi, and tempura! I thought grilled crab really is the best, so next time I visit, I want to focus on the grilled crab. But I also wanted to try kani-shabu (crab hotpot), so I’d like to have that next time.

Aichi Prefecture [Toyohashi City] Restaurants Where You Can Enjoy Crab Dishes

Genji Sohonten

Genji Sohonten is a restaurant in Toyohashi, Aichi, that serves shabu-shabu and crab.

Inside, the table seating comes in two styles: kura-zukuri (storehouse-style) and hira-zukuri (flat-style). There are 11 Private rooms in total, available for parties of 2 or more.

Their most popular course lets you enjoy snow crab and Special beef shabu-shabu.

The snow crab shabu-shabu is appealing for its melt-in-your-mouth texture, different from grilled crab. It has a strong sweetness, and you can really sense how fresh it is.

The "hon-zuwai-gani (snow crab) ishiyaki steak" is also a recommended menu item. After spreading butter on the piping hot stone, they boldly grill the snow crab and eat it with a squeeze of lemon juice.

The toasty aroma unique to ishiyaki (stone grilling), along with the flavors of butter and lemon, makes it taste incredibly good.

スケ

Needless to say, the kani (crab) is delicious♪ Whether grilled, raw, or boiled, each style brings out a different flavor of kani! I don’t usually have it raw or lightly grilled at home, so that makes me happy too♪ It’s so rich and melty that you’ll get hooked♪
