Bantai

"Ban Thai" is a Thai restaurant on the third floor of a building near the Kabukicho Ichibangai Arch, about a 14-minute walk from Shin-Okubo Station. It opened in 1987 and has been loved for many years.

To make guests feel Thailand while still in Tokyo, the interior is decorated with Thai-made furniture and miscellaneous goods.

You can enjoy dishes made by a chef from Thailand who recreates the exact flavors eaten in Thailand.

A popular choice is the green curry. It is packed with chunky ingredients like chicken and eggplant, and the balance between the mellow coconut milk and the heat of green chili peppers is said to be just right.

"Phu Phat Phong Curry" is a stir-fried crab curry. This dish stir-fries shell-on crab with curry, combining the rich flavor of the crab with curry spices for a deep taste.

On weekdays, they offer a lunch-time-only special, where you can enjoy a value set with curry, rice, salad, and more.

どさんこアスリート

First up is the green curry. It is packed with chunky ingredients, mainly chicken and eggplant, almost overflowing from the curry container. Taking a bite right away, the ingredients are tender and well simmered, and the green curry has a rich flavor with just the right balance of sweetness and a spicy finish, making it incredibly delicious. It goes perfectly with the rice.

This was my third visit. My favorite is phu pad phong curry (stir-fried crab with curry powder), a dish made with one whole crab (probably). The mild curry with coconut milk makes it impossible to stop eating(^^)It is a bit of work to eat, but it is my favorite!

Nepal Minzoku Ryori Aagan

"Nepal Minzoku Ryori Aagan" is a Nepalese restaurant located about a 3-minute walk east along Okubo-dori from Shin-Okubo Station. It is on the 4th floor of the building.

The interior recreates the feel of a traditional Nepalese home. From the window-side seats, you can look down on a street lined with many Korean restaurants.

The restaurant mainly serves ethnic dishes from Nepal’s Newari and Thakali peoples. You can enjoy food that makes skillful use of spices.

A curry that is easy to enjoy even for first time Nepalese food diners is the "Aagan Special Thakali Set." It is a single plate with rice, two kinds of curry, and an assortment of side dishes.

One of the fun parts is mixing the different dishes and changing up the flavors. The mutton curry is said to have a great balance of lamb aroma and spices.

They also serve the Newari Set, with curry stir fry, beans, and other items arranged around traditional hoshiii (dried rice). The key is to eat it in a way that lets the hoshiii absorb some moisture.

・Argan Special Thakali Set
The fish curry had the rich flavor of fish, and the chicken curry had the rich flavor of chicken as well. All of the side dishes were tasty too, and it was fun to mix different things together and enjoy the changing flavors. It was quite a filling meal, but I finished it all because it was so good. The atmosphere of the restaurant was nice, and although it was my first time trying Nepali food, I was able to enjoy it at a reasonable price and left Manzoku.

At this restaurant, you can enjoy authentic Nepalese cuisine, and I ordered a lunch set menu with a friend. It may be a little spicy for people who are not good with heat, but I think it is great that they have not changed the flavors too much to suit Japanese tastes. I really liked the lamb curry.

Ban Tam

"Baan Tam" is a Thai restaurant located in the basement of a building along Okubo-dori, near the Okubo Nichome bus stop. You can enjoy Thai food prepared by a chef from Isan (northeastern Thailand).

The interior is compact, with about 20 seats in total. It has an atmosphere that makes it easy to stop by even on your own.

It is well known for serving a wide variety of Thai food, from standard Thai dishes to traditional cuisine from the Isan region.

A popular curry here is the green curry. This slightly spicy curry comes with chicken, bamboo shoots, eggplant, and more. It tastes mild at first bite, and the heat builds as you keep eating.

They also serve massaman curry, with mild heat and deep sour and spicy flavors, as well as a spicy dish of fried fish topped with red curry.

One of the popular menu items is a curry-flavored dish with crab meat and soft egg. It has a mild taste with a nice kick of spice.

えりんぎのこのこ

Even though I always struggle over what to order, there’s a 90% chance I end up choosing green curry. This time was no exception, and I went with the green curry. The curry itself is fairly soupy, but the spices come through nicely in the mild coconut flavor, and it tastes great. For this price, getting a salad, soup, and even one drink included is a really good deal.

I chose soft shell crab and fluffy egg curry stir fry, along with pad thai, and picked fresh spring rolls from the chef's recommendations. None of them had a chili pepper mark, so I was able to enjoy Thai food without playing it too safe. It was my first time trying the crab and egg curry stir fry, and with rice on the side, it had a gentle heat and was tasty in a different way from the usual green curry.

Nangurogaru Shin-Okubo Ten

Nanglo Ghar Shin-Okubo Ten is located about a 2-minute walk from Shin-Okubo Station, on the 3rd and 4th floors of a building along Okubo-dori Street. You can enjoy authentic Nepalese cuisine here.

The tables are arranged with plenty of space, making it a great fit for families and groups.

They are particular about making all their food preparations Homemade, and they do not use any food additives or preservatives at all.

Instead, they source a variety of spices and Takayama herbs through their own channels from the Himalayas, and offer a wide range of flavors, from dishes with no heat or sharp spice to richly flavored spice dishes.

As a staple to go with the curry, you can also choose dido (a sticky staple made from buckwheat flour or millet) from northern Nepal. It has no strong flavor, so people eat it together with curry.

The popular Everest Soup Momo pairs momo (dumplings wrapped in wheat dough) with curry-flavored soup.

よんこしー

I ordered the Thakali Dido Set and the Nepal Local Cuisine Set. For the two curries you can choose, I picked mutton and pork, and chicken and alutama (potato and bamboo shoot curry). Every curry was high quality. They were packed with ingredients, and the meat was tender, juicy, and almost meltingly soft. The dal had a gentle taste with a nice bean flavor. Everything was perfect, from the tarkari (vegetable side dish) to the achar (pickles).

・Everest soup momo
The skin was nice and chewy, the filling had a curry flavor, and the soup had plenty of sesame, with not much soy milk taste, making it milder than the soup momo I had at other places. The xiaolongbao-sized momo came with 6 pieces and had a decent amount, making it a Manzoku lunch.

Sorumari

Sorumari is on the second floor of a building down a side street off Okubo-dori, about a 3-minute walk from Shin-Okubo Station toward Okubo Station. You can enjoy dishes made by a chef from Nepal.

The interior has bright red and orange walls, decorated with Nepali folk crafts and other items.

The dishes mainly use ingredients sourced from Nepal. They make generous use of spices, and many of the dishes are said to be prepared with health in mind.

Sets built around roti (unleavened flatbread), an everyday bread commonly eaten in Nepal, served with curry and side dishes, are popular.

There is a wide variety of curry, with about 8 kinds including chicken, mutton, bean, and fish. They also have chunky curry and curry that is more like a stew.

There is also a set menu where you can choose and enjoy 2 kinds of curry, so it is great for trying and comparing them.

なるなる5224

・Roti Set
The dal curry is fixed, and you can choose one other curry, so I went with chicken curry. First of all, the unfamiliar dal curry is actually really good. It was my first time trying roti, and it was tasty. When I sandwiched achar (pickles) and potato in it and ate it with the curry, it felt like a whole new kind of curry meal. The atmosphere also has a full Nepal feel, which makes it fun, and the inside is clean.

The dal curry... this was a hit too. It had lots of small lentils settled in it, giving it nice depth. And the pork curry... this was a huge hit too! It was a soupy Nepalese curry with a flavor I had never tried before, and it was super tasty. It also had lots of diced meat in it, and the finish was top notch. The potatoes in the achar (pickles) were excellent too.

MOMO

MOMO is a restaurant just north down a side street from the Shin-Okubo Station intersection. You can enjoy Nepāru katei ryōri (Nepalese home cooking) here.

The interior has a calm and warm feel. With its exotic atmosphere, this is a great spot for casual parties.

"Momo," which is also the name of the restaurant, is a dish of steamed dumplings made with a wheat flour wrapper filled with spiced ground meat or vegetables. You can enjoy a wide variety of momo.

As for curry, in addition to mutton and chicken, they also serve al bodi tama curry made with potatoes, beans, and bamboo shoots.

There are different ways to enjoy the curry, such as pairing it with rice that is like takikomi gohan (seasoned rice cooked with ingredients) or with thinly baked roti made from wheat flour.

They also recommend eating rice flakes, made by flattening and drying steamed rice, after letting them soak up the curry soup.

あきぽん0417

I ordered the mutton curry. I forgot the price, but I think it was under JPY1,000. It was a really delicious curry with no complaints no matter how you look at it, from value for money to taste, meatiness, and the kick of the spices. If you are not sure where to go around Shinjuku, I would recommend this place or Himalaya.

Itoyumilife

I love dal bhat, so of course I chose the momo rice set. You can also choose beer with the set, so I went with that, and I was surprised by how big it was. The service is amazing. I chose the chicken curry. It had several pieces of bone-in chicken in it. All I can say is that it was delicious!

Betogato

Vetogato is a restaurant near the north exit of Okubo Station. It sits a little back from Okubo-dori, and the white door is the landmark.

There is a restaurant space at the back of the area selling ingredients. It feels like a hideaway, and you can enjoy your meal at a relaxed pace.

The set menu with curry, rice, and an assortment of deli side dishes is popular. They also offer the “Vegetable Kana Set,” which is made up entirely of vegetables.

You can choose either chicken curry or mutton curry, and enjoy two kinds together with dal curry. It also has free refills of the curry soup, which people say makes it a great value.

The photo shows pani puri. It is filled with ingredients such as potatoes and beans inside a thin, ball-shaped cracker.

You add a curry-like spiced soup just before eating. It is well reviewed for its crisp texture and the spices you can taste inside.

MA★SA

The mutton curry is the kind with an explosion of umami, with bone-in pieces and skin-on pieces. It has more chunky pieces of mutton than it looks, and it is fragrant and spicy. The rice seems to be a mix of Indica rice and Japanese rice? It feels a little short on sheen, but that may be because it is meant to be eaten with ghee poured over it. You do not just pour on the curry, but also add ghee, mix it all together, and eat it.

Teff'sSlave

I went to eat Nepali curry!! It was delicious... The fried dumpling-like dish I tried for the first time also felt new and fresh!! You pour spiced curry into the crispy shell and eat it, and I thought it would be hot, but it was cool and Surprising!! This was something new!! The salad was tasty too, and even though I ate until I was full, I was amazed at how reasonable it was

The space feels out of the ordinary, with a large mural on the wall and even a mini stage.

The curries, blended with herbs and spices, come in a full lineup of set menus.

Nepali style curry comes with sides like pickles, fried beans, soup, and yogurt, and the way to enjoy it is to mix them in little by little and let the flavor change as you eat.

To go with the curry, there is rice as well as bean flour crepes, rice flour pancakes, and naan-like breads.

My first visit. It is just a short walk from the station and easy to find. I went in alone, but the staff were polite and welcoming, so I felt comfortable. I ordered the chicken curry, and it had a nice level of spice that made it easy to eat. The naan was also freshly baked and delicious.

I stopped by after work. The contents of the thali set were very satisfying, and the combination of dal soup and curry was excellent. I also appreciated that rice and dal came with free refills. The understated interior feels relaxing. It’s a place that makes me want to come back.

Thai Kingdom Cuisine Kunme 1

This Thai restaurant is about a 1-minute walk from the west exit of Shin-Okubo Station. The entrance, designed to look like a Thai temple, is its landmark.

The wood carvings and wallpaper give the place a classic Thai feel. It can also accommodate group meals.

The menu ranges widely from classic Thai dishes to original creative cuisine.

There is also a wide variety of curry. Some curries let you choose the main ingredient from pork, beef, chicken, and more, and the spice level also varies. It seems they also offer curries with white fish or shrimp.

They also have courses with All you can drink, making this a place where you can enjoy Thai food paired with Thai beer and more.

I visited for lunch. I ordered the green curry fried rice. It was my first time trying it, and I thought green curry and fried rice went really well together! It also came with a drink, salad, soup, and dessert for JPY1,100.

I visited again for the first time in a while for a dinner gathering with 9 friends. We ordered a course with All you can drink. Starting with the fried glass noodles, everything was tasty, and we asked for the yam wun sen (Thai glass noodle salad) not to be too spicy. We also had the tom yum goong made mildly spicy. The green curry was also delicious, and we left feeling full and very Manzoku.

Hamuro Kaja Garu

Hamro Khaja Ghar is a restaurant about a 4-minute walk from Shin-Okubo Station, tucked away on a side street just north of Okubo-dori Avenue. You can enjoy Nepali home cooking here.

The interior stands out for its walls painted with scenes of Nepal. It has a casual atmosphere that makes it easy to visit even on your own.

They base the food on katei no aji (home-style flavors) loved in Nepal, while using less oil and adjusting the spices to suit Japanese tastes.

One highlight is that you can choose your curry from four spice levels, from mild to hot. You can also choose either a rice set or a set with roti (thin flatbread).

The set comes with the standard lentil dal curry, and you can choose your preferred curry from mutton, chicken, or vegetable. The basic way to eat it is to mix it with pickles and other sides.

There is also a wide selection of a la carte dishes, so you can enjoy a meal with alcohol as well.

u_wa_ba_mi

You can choose 2 types of curry from mutton, chicken, and vegetable, so I went with mutton and chicken, and asked for it hot. First, the chicken. It was bone-in, but the pieces were easy to eat, and you could really taste the good flavor of the chicken in the curry itself. The mutton curry also had skin-on meat, not just bones. Personally, I love curry with roughly chopped mutton in it.

敷さん

I ordered the dal bhat set, and the staff member, speaking hesitant Japanese, asked, "Chicken? Mutton?" so I chose mutton. The two kinds of curry had a mild flavor with light seasoning, and they went well with the rice, a mix of Japonica and Indica. Just as I was running out of rice, the staff came over and served me as much rice as I needed from a plate.

In addition to pairing the curry with rice, there is also a set that comes with naan baked in a kiln oven. Naan with garlic or cheese added is said to make a good snack to go with alcohol even on its own.

There is also a popular plan where selected menu items, including curry, are All you can eat.

Every dish was made with care, and the curry seasoning was especially good. They also have non-spicy menu items, so even families with children could enjoy the meal without worry. The staff were kind, and we were able to take our time and enjoy the meal. The prices are reasonable, and I would like to visit again.

komedarian

The dal bhat was delicious. The dal was a proper Nepali style bean soup with deep richness. The mutton curry was unusual, with the aroma of paprika and chili right up front, but that actually paired very well with the dal. It was also nicely balanced with the other sides like tarkari and achar.

KB KITCHEN

This ethnic restaurant is located in the basement of a building by the train tracks, near Okubo Station North Exit. It stays open straight through from lunch to dinner.

Inside, the restaurant is decorated with the flag of Nepal and Asian style decor. It also has a large screen, so it can host parties as well.

There is a wide variety of curries, and even with dal curry and sag curry, you can choose versions with chicken or mutton. They also have prawn and potato curries, so part of the fun is choosing one.

There were also reviews saying that freshly baked naan goes perfectly with the curry.

One nice thing about the lunch menu is that you can enjoy curry with rice or naan at a good value. If you choose rice, it also comes out a bit faster.

The curry is slowly simmered until the ingredients become tender, which is one of its key features.

はるかぜあきかぜ

I ordered the daily curry for JPY600. It is right in front of Okubo Station, and I had been curious about it for a long time, but since it is in the basement it felt a little hard to enter, so I finally visited. The restaurant was unexpectedly spacious. I had the horenso (spinach) chicken curry from the daily curry menu. The chicken was tender, and the spinach was tasty.

Akino720

I visited for lunch for the first time. I decided to try the grilled cheese pork curry. For the set drink, I went with a lassi. The curry was not too spicy and easy to eat. More than anything, you can clearly tell the pork was well simmered, with tender fibers that fell apart ^_^ The naan was big too, and I ended up full! If you choose naan, make sure to allow plenty of time. You can eat it fresh off the grill ^_^

Moyan Curry Shinjuku Higashiguchi Ten

Moyan Curry Shinjuku Higashiguchi Ten is a curry specialty restaurant next to the Godzilla Building, a landmark in Shinjuku Kabukicho. Founded in 1997, it has multiple restaurants mainly in Tokyo.

The casual space has table seating with log-like chairs and counter seating.

The curry is made with a base of aromatic vegetables slowly roasted over time in a small amount of rice oil. It is gluten-free, and its healthy flavor comes from a blend of spices also used in kampo (traditional Japanese herbal medicine).

You can choose the spice level from 20 levels, and another nice point is that you can also choose the amount of rice and sauce.

The curry has a thick texture, with a base stretched with broth from beef and pork. The ingredients include large pieces of pork, beef, and chicken.

People also like that they can add paid toppings, and help themselves to fukujinzuke (pickled relish) and boiled potatoes.

TK2825

This time, I got the chicken curry with a cheese topping! It had a solid spice kick, but also plenty of flavor from the vegetables, giving it the same healthy taste as always. Adding cheese made it richer and even more satisfying. It had that addictive good taste, and even after a long time, the quality was as steady as ever. A hearty curry when you want to eat well but still want something gentle on the body. This is the kind of place that makes you want to come back regularly after all

The pork curry came with two big chunks of pork belly simmered until very tender, and the chicken curry had two pieces of chicken cooked until crisp on the outside and juicy inside. The curry had a strong aroma of spices while still being easy to eat, and both the keema and butter chicken were reliably good. It was well balanced without being too heavy, so I could enjoy it comfortably to the last bite. The inside had a calm atmosphere, and it was nice to be able to enjoy a relaxed meal even though it is in the Kabukicho area. This is an easy place to use for both lunch and dinner◎

The curry is an authentic one, carefully blended with several kinds of spices, and its rich flavor is especially appealing. It is thick and creamy. You can also choose the spice level. They bake the naan to order, so it is fragrant on the outside and pleasantly chewy inside. It is packed with cheese and feels indulgent. It melts in your mouth. It also goes perfectly with the curry❗❗
