Kawarasoba Suzume, about a 15-minute walk from Umeda Station on the Osaka Metro, is a place where you can enjoy kawara-soba (tea soba noodles served on a hot roof tile) and other local dishes mainly from Yamaguchi Prefecture. During the day, they serve set meals, and at night, they offer a full range of dishes that go well with a drink.
The interior is said to be a relaxing space with a gentle, calm atmosphere.

It is also the first restaurant in Osaka to serve kawara-soba (roof tile soba), and its signature menu item is the "fugu-ten nose kawara-soba (kawara-soba topped with pufferfish tempura)."
This dish uses fragrant fresh noodles kneaded with Uji matcha, and you enjoy it with an original dashi-based dipping sauce that brings out the umami of bonito flakes. The crispy texture of the noodles is said to be one of its highlights.

In the evening, they offer a wide range of dishes that go well with drinks. If you want to enjoy a full meal, lunch is recommended because the set meal menu is extensive.
On weekdays, they also offer combo meals with soba and rice bowls, with a generous spread that includes fried dishes, salad, and more.

I heard you can get delicious kawara soba (tile-grilled soba), a Yamaguchi Prefecture specialty, in Osaka…!✨️The inside was also clean, with a very nice atmosphere that felt calm and relaxing. The green tea soba grilled on a tile was nice and crispy, and really delicious!!It was my first time trying it, but it was the kind of taste that made me want to come back for more. Also, the staff were very friendly, and I was able to enjoy chatting with them as well!

I think kawara-soba (tile-grilled soba) is a rare find in Osaka, since you do not often get to eat it there! Even in Yamaguchi Prefecture, not many places actually use real kawara (roof tiles), so you can enjoy an authentic taste!

Tempura to Osoba Miwa, about a 5-minute walk from Kitashinchi Station, is a restaurant where you can enjoy tempura made with seasonal fish and vegetables along with hand-cut soba noodles.
The interior is a refined space with a Japanese feel, and the seating is limited to white wood counter seats. You can fully enjoy your meal while watching the cooking right in front of you.
Photograph:しらたまーくん
The food is served in course style, using seasonal ingredients. To finish the course, they serve nihachi soba (buckwheat noodles made with an 80:20 buckwheat-to-wheat ratio).
The soba has thin noodles and is known for its smooth, easy slurp. The selection seems to change from time to time, with not only mori soba (chilled soba served on a tray), but also options like curry nanban (curry soba in broth) and sudachi (Japanese citrus).
Photograph:ピーナッツ120
The fish used for the tempura are Special selected mainly from the nearby waters of Osaka Bay, as well as from across Japan.
They finish each piece with Japanese techniques and an extra touch of care, sealing the full flavor of the ingredients inside the batter. They are also particular about the oil, so it seems you can enjoy it without feeling heavy afterward.

I visited for dinner. Every dish was delicious, and the tempura looked as beautiful as a work of art. The soba was also very good. The atmosphere of the restaurant was lovely, and the staff provided polite service. It is a place I would like to visit again.

ぱりそら
The soba on this day was made with Ibuki zairai-shu (native Ibuki heirloom variety) from Mt. Ibuki in Shiga Prefecture. The noodles are said to be small grained and sweet, so they first tried them with salt. This nihachi soba (80 percent buckwheat soba) has a white, thin, city style finish. It has a nice firmness and a clean, smooth feel going down. When eaten with salt, a faint sweetness gently opens up. Next, with salt and wasabi (Japanese horseradish)・・that also sharpens and deepens the flavor.

・Kitsune (deep-fried tofu) soba
The slightly thin soba noodles go down smoothly and have a rich aroma. The dashi has a clean Kansai-style taste but still packs plenty of umami, and it pairs perfectly with the sweetness of the fried tofu. It is not too heavy even after drinks, making it just the right balance for a final bowl.

A light soba meal on the way home after drinks is the best! I stopped by this restaurant after bar-hopping to two places. The menu had lots of options, so it was hard to choose, but I ordered the ebi-ten mori soba (assortment soba with shrimp tempura), which was listed as the most popular item. The tempura came with two very large shrimp tempura pieces and felt very filling, and the soba had a nice bite and was very tasty!

This is a soba restaurant I’ve visited several times whenever I’m in the mood for soba. Of course the soba is great, but the kakiage (mixed vegetable tempura fritter) is also very good. The atmosphere is nice too, including the staff. This time, I ordered bokkake soba. The soba is well liked for its strong buckwheat aroma and great smoothness. It also pairs perfectly with freshly grated hon-wasabi (Japanese wasabi).

In addition to A la carte soba, they also offer set menus and Gozen set menus that come with onigiri (rice balls) and kobachi (small side dishes). Recommended for those who want a more filling meal.
The photo shows the "Soba Kasane Bento." It also comes with a box of otsukuri (sashimi), so you can enjoy fresh sashimi with good umami.
In the evening, they also offer a full izakaya menu, so you can enjoy a luxurious dinner with fragrant arabiki soba (coarsely ground buckwheat noodles) and a seafood Hot Pot filled with octopus and shellfish✨The arabiki soba is the real deal, with sweetness and aroma spreading with every bite. The seafood Hot Pot comes packed with plump octopus and fresh shellfish, and you can also enjoy the rich, flavorful broth. The combination of soba and Hot Pot makes it perfect for a luxurious dinner at night.

・Tempura Zaru Soba
The handmade soba, made by stone milling whole gen-soba (buckwheat kernels) from Fukui Prefecture, is rich in flavor, with a great buckwheat aroma and smooth texture even when eaten on its own. When enjoyed with soba dipping sauce, wasabi, and green onion, the simple good taste of the soba stands out even more.

Many customers enjoy the lamb dishes along with soba, and the restaurant is known for serving tasty lamb with no off notes.
They use high quality lamb from Hokkaido, which is hard to get. You can enjoy a wide variety of lamb dishes, including jingisukan (grilled mutton), shabu-shabu (hotpot), and charcoal grilled skewers.
food.ie_0816
Every jingisukan (grilled mutton barbecue) dish on the menu was delicious and excellent. The 4-person zashiki (tatami seating) let us relax and enjoy our drinks, and the calm atmosphere almost felt like being at home. The soba noodles at the end of the meal were also very good! It was a perfect hidden gem of a restaurant.

The lamb had no off notes, and it was tender and juicy, with a great match with the special sauce. At the end of the course, they served 100% soba noodles, and we got to enjoy a fresh new pairing with lamb. They also have a wide selection of drinks that go well with soba and lamb, including Japanese sake and spiced shochu, making this a great pick for gatherings of food lovers or casual get-togethers.

The soba that has been loved for many years since the shop first opened uses Special buckwheat flour selected from about 10 production regions.
It features an exquisite aroma and pleasantly firm noodles, and they pair perfectly with the dashi broth made from five kinds of shaved fish flakes. The photo shows one of the hot soba dishes, nishin soba (soba with simmered herring).

Starting with Japanese sake, with 20 varieties available at all times, the drink lineup is extensive, including beer and shochu as well.
They also offer a full range of dishes that pair perfectly with drinks, and the most popular among them is the ozukuri (sashimi platter) made with seafood sourced from a fishmonger. The selection changes daily, so you can enjoy fresh flavors.

I thought both the soba and the a la carte dishes were very good. Customers kept coming in one after another. It’s not so formal that it feels like a kappo (traditional Japanese dining) restaurant, but more like a slightly upscale Japanese-style izakaya, and I thought the calm atmosphere was very nice.

Zaru soba (chilled soba noodles on a bamboo tray). It was more filling than it looked and had a satisfying portion. The hand-cut soba had a firm bite and a nice aroma. After I finished eating, they served a rich soba-yu (hot soba cooking water), which was warm and comforting.

In addition to cold soba, the restaurant also offers a full lineup of hot soba dishes, making it a great choice for the colder season.

The zaru soba is made with thin-cut 100% soba noodles that have a nice bite, a great buckwheat aroma, and a good flavor that grows richer the more you chew. It tastes great on its own, and it also goes well with the light dipping sauce.

This time, I had the popular kamo no tsuke soba (duck dipping soba). The hot, rich dipping broth packs in the full flavor of duck, and the moment you dip the cold soba into it, a nice roasted aroma and gentle sweetness spread across your palate for a blissful bite. The more you chew, the more you taste the flavor of the soba, so it stays good right to the last bite. And the tori-ten (chicken tempura) is another must-order dish.

All the soba served here, hot or cold, uses broth made from asari (short-neck clams).
The soup has a light, clean taste that lets you enjoy the gentle flavor of asari, and it pairs well with the fragrant 100% soba that goes down smoothly.

When you want to enjoy tempura and soba together, the house specialty, "Ebi to Kobashira no Kakiage Zaru (chilled soba with shrimp and small scallop kakiage)," comes recommended.
The kakiage is packed with sweet small shrimp and small scallops, making it very satisfying to eat. The light, crisp batter is also said to be one of its appealing points.

This restaurant is in a kominka-fu (traditional house-style) building and had a lively atmosphere. It is a soba restaurant, but every a la carte dish was delicious, and after taking time to enjoy the drinks, I had some great soba for a very Manzoku meal. I would like to visit again.

I’d often passed by this place and had been curious about it. Soba served with a shellfish broth. Shellfish broth is bound to be good. I ordered the tempura soba. Why is tempura at soba restaurants always so tasty? I dipped it in the soba broth and enjoyed it. The soba was exactly the kind I like, too! Manzoku Manzoku‼️

The sobayu-nabe (buckwheat noodle water Hot Pot), in which Kyoto brand pork Hiyoshi-buta (Hiyoshi pork) is enjoyed in a soup filled with the savory flavor of chicken and vegetables, is also popular.
Hiyoshi-buta is known for its fat that seems to melt on the tongue, yet it has a clean taste that keeps you eating. It also seems to pair very well with the sobayu soup.

The interior has a clean, calm, and upscale feel. As expected from a restaurant inside Hotel Hanshin Annex. Another big plus is that all the soba here is 100% soba. The noodles are thin, so they feel light and fresh on the palate. The Kitsune (deep-fried tofu) topping is really big. On top of that, it has a light sweetness that does not feel heavy.

The Private room was spacious, and in a clean and comfortable space, we had a course meal with soba and Hot Pot. Everything was delicious. The soba was 100% soba. It was good with the dipping sauce, with salt (the salt here was very tasty), and also as warm soba cooked in the Hot Pot. I will visit again.

[The green soba is outstanding!] You can finish the course with hegi soba (Niigata-style soba served on a wooden tray), a Niigata specialty. The green soba is served with a slightly rich noodle dipping sauce with a nice dashi flavor, and it tastes great. You can also enjoy visually beautiful dishes such as mushroom salad, an assortment of ozukuri (sashimi), and dashimaki tamago (Japanese rolled omelet).
