Kochi

Kochi is a restaurant about a 3-minute walk from Kawaramachi Station, where you can enjoy a wide range of shochu (Japanese distilled spirit) and food in a charming renovated kominka (traditional Japanese house) interior.

It has relaxing counter seats and zashiki (tatami seating). The atmosphere is calm, almost like a tea room.

The Kochi (east wind) course meal lets you enjoy seasonal flavors, and there are three types to choose from based on your budget. They also offer All you can drink, so you can use it as an izakaya (Japanese pub) as well.

Each dish is served on its own plate for each person, so you can take your time and enjoy every bite.

There is no à la carte menu, only course meals. They offer a wide selection of shochu (Japanese distilled spirit), along with izakaya-style dishes that pair well with drinks.

The yamaimo (Japanese mountain yam) baked in the oven looks like gratin and is said to be light and tasty.

Every dish was really good. The presentation was beautiful too. On top of that, each plate was just the right portion. And the timing of each dish was spot on. Partway through, we switched from beer to highballs and Japanese sake, and enjoyed the delicious food all the way to the end.

We used a course with All you can drink for a social gathering. We got started after being shown to seats right next to the grill! They kept doing wara-yaki (straw-fired grilling) nonstop beside us. It really has a live feel〜. Smoke and flames filled the air. The katsuo no tataki (seared bonito) was delicious.

The katsuo no tataki (seared bonito), utsubo (moray eel) Kara-age, and everything else were all excellent. The Japanese sake tasting set is also a great value, and I also really enjoyed the Kochi Imo Shochu.

I used the second floor with a Private reservation, and the All you can drink beverages were self serve at the all you can drink drink counter. There was a wider variety than I expected, including shochu and Japanese sake, and it was nice to be able to make them with shochu, however I liked. The specialty kai-buro (shellfish hotpot) also had large oysters in it and tasted great. This restaurant is perfect for Banquet use.

くぇんさん

The must-order dishes for me at this place are fig mascarpone and Manila clam garlic butter. The Manila clam garlic butter is even better when you pour the leftover sauce over white rice after finishing the clams. I also really enjoyed the madai (Sea Bream) ara-taki (simmered fish scraps), grilled shishamo (smelt), young chicken Kara-age, and chicken ham with whole grain mustard sauce. I want to go again.

First, I ordered a beer, and then the bone-in chicken I came for. It was Awa Odori-brand bone-in chicken. If I remember right, it was chicken from Tokushima. It had a nice rich fat and tasted really good. It came with cabbage, which was also nice.

tokorotennnn

I ordered honetsuki-dori (bone-in chicken). They warned me that it was quite large and asked if I would be okay with it, and when I nervously went ahead and ordered it, I was surprised by how very filling it really was. Honestly, it would not be an exaggeration to say it was enough for 3 people. But it was delicious! The salt seasoning was spot on, and even though you could clearly taste a lot of salt, somehow the flavor was just the right strength. The Japanese sake was good too.

gomat223

There are lots of drink and food options, so you won’t get tired of the selection. I ordered Chicken sashimi (served raw) and beer, and both were good. The atmosphere also makes this an easy place to walk into.

The tuna sashimi and kushiage (deep-fried skewers) assortment are also appealing, along with the lively mix of offerings you’d expect from an izakaya.

We started with buri-shabu (yellowtail shabu-shabu) as the main dish, and the Hot Pot uses gas instead of solid fuel, so it stays nice and warm〜. It was my first time trying Acerola Buri, and compared with Kagawa's olive hamachi, it had less fat and a finish closer to wild fish.

Sakaba Niboshi

Sakaba Niboshi is a local favorite izakaya (Japanese pub), just a 1-minute walk from Kotoden Kataharamachi Station.

The concept is an energy stand. The lively interior has an atmospheric counter and table seating where you can chat cheerfully with good friends.

They offer a lineup of original izakaya menu items with real visual impact, including Taru Numa Ebi Fry (shrimp fry in a pool of tartar sauce).

The rich tartar sauce goes perfectly with the crispy shrimp fry. You can also order an extra serving of just the shrimp fry.

A popular way to finish off after drinks is the “mochi-mochi noodles chuka soba (Chinese noodles).”

They are particular about using no chemical seasonings and about the salt, and the chewy fresh pasta noodles are said to pair perfectly with the light soup.

くぴぷち

The food includes local farm-to-table style dishes, oden (Japanese stew), all the crowd-pleasing staples, and even chuka soba (Chinese-style noodles) To finish! Each dish feels playful and full of fun touches♪ Personally, the ones that really hit the spot for me were the niboshi (dried sardine) tempura, Kagawa-grown aburi salmon and ikura (salmon roe) Japanese-style yukhoe, kashiwa (chicken) butter nikudofu, and the Kagawa-grown chicken thigh skewer!

It was just like an izakaya (Japanese pub), ordering Italian small plates to go with wine. Aji no Ki

Aji no Ki is a place where you can fully enjoy seasonal Seto local fish dishes in a private Japanese style space with fully private rooms. Because it is a popular restaurant, reservations are required by the day before.

The restaurant also has Private rooms that can accommodate large groups.

Course meals are the main focus here. The most popular option, the "Special kaiseki (traditional multi-course meal) Yume Course," lets you enjoy seasonal ingredients along with top brand Olive beef and Sanuki mochi-buta (glutinous-textured pork).

The tableware and presentation are beautiful, so you can enjoy not just the flavors but the look of the dishes as well.

The "Yashima Course" lets you fully enjoy Kagawa specialties, including hone-tsuki niku (bone in chicken) finished with a truffle flavor.

The sukiyaki uses Sanuki Mochibuta (Sanuki rice-fed pork), known for its tender texture. They say it is also tasty if you change the flavor partway through to with simmered eggs.

1829c3

I had the "Special Kaiseki Mai Course" with my partner. The otsukuri (sashimi platter) included several kinds of seasonal sashimi, and we enjoyed it very much. It was easy to tell that the steamed dishes, fried dishes, and others were carefully prepared, and they were enjoyable right down to the tableware. The mochi-buta (pork) sukiyaki can apparently be enjoyed with a change of flavor by dipping it in egg partway through, as I later learned from reviews.

Izakaya Usagi is a popular spot about a 7-minute walk from the south exit of Marugame Station, known for fresh fish and kushiyaki (grilled skewers) cooked over binchotan (Japanese white charcoal), along with its charming hideaway-like atmosphere.

Inside, there are counter seats and zashiki (tatami seating). The relaxed, homey space lets you enjoy your meal at an easy pace.

They mainly serve fresh fish caught locally.

The "osashimi assortment (sashimi assortment)," which can be ordered only once, is very filling even for a single serving. It is said to be brightly colored, with a plump fresh texture that keeps you coming back for more.

They offer a set where you can fully enjoy their specialty, honetsukidori (bone-in chicken), along with drinks.

The skin is crispy, and the meat is tender and tasty. The seasoning is spicy, so it goes well with alcohol.

We ordered both oyadori (mature chicken) and wakadori (young chicken) to compare them, and both had a rich chicken flavor. It was also great to mix the oil into the cabbage underneath and eat it! The staff kindly explained how to eat it when we asked, and they even gave us scissors, which was very thoughtful!

We had the tomato salad, a sashimi assortment, bone-in chicken, and shijimi (basket clam) soup. More and more customers kept coming in afterward, which really drove home how popular this place is. We enjoyed everything, and it was all delicious.

Izakaya Uwokame

Izakaya Uwokame is a longtime local favorite where you can enjoy classic izakaya dishes and drinks. It is located on the first floor of a building down the street on the south side of Marugame Plaza Hotel, a 5-minute walk from the south exit of Marugame Station.

With counter seats, Private room, and Semi-private room seating available, it works well for everything from solo drinks to Banquet gatherings.

They serve a la carte dishes that pair well with alcohol, so you can eat as much of whatever you like.

Kagawa specialty honetsukidori (bone-in chicken) comes in two types, young chicken and parent chicken. The salt and pepper are mild, but the garlic comes through nicely, giving it an addictive taste that gets high marks in reviews.

There is also an All you can drink course that comes with izakaya style dishes such as Kara-age, edamame (young soybeans), and yakitori (grilled chicken skewers).

No matter what you order, the food is said to be tasty, and the fried dishes are crisp. The dishes included in the course are said to be filling enough that you may not need to order anything extra.

I ordered several A la carte dishes, and every one of them was a hit and very good. Personally, I recommend the hamo (pike conger) tempura for its crisp texture. They also carry many local Shikoku sake options, so I think even visitors from other areas can enjoy them. They also had Marugame's famous honetsukidori (bone-in chicken). I was able to enjoy tasty local dishes at this long-established izakaya, and I left very Manzoku!
