[Funabashi, Chiba Prefecture] Restaurants with Great Sushi
Photograph:Ish626
Okame Zushi is on Goten-dori, a 5-minute walk from JR Funabashi Station. This sushi restaurant is so popular for its great food that some reviews say this is the place to go for sushi in Funabashi, Chiba.
The calm interior is a cozy, compact space with only counter seating and 15 Sunken kotatsu seating seats.
They offer just one course, the chef’s Omakase. They also have a wide selection of drinks, including Japanese sake that pairs well with the sushi, which is a nice plus for people who enjoy drinking.
The carefully crafted sushi has a great reputation, with every topping said to be fresh and excellent. It seems many people end up drinking a little too much because the food is just that good.
Photograph:raccostar
The course also includes several kinds of otsumami (small appetizers). The selection changes depending on the day, but all of them are said to be delicately seasoned and delicious. You can also order additional sushi and otsumami.
As the place is often lively with regulars, it is best to make a reservation before visiting.
sasagaki
The nigiri sushi is carefully prepared and brings out the flavor of each ingredient. In particular, the pieces made with seasonal neta (toppings) are thoughtfully crafted while still offering familiar, comforting flavors. The atmosphere inside also feels warm, so you can relax and enjoy your meal.

Both the appetizers and the sushi were excellent. I’m not usually a big fan of katsuo (bonito), but this was my first time trying it smoked, and it was delicious and Surprising! The chutoro and bafun uni (horse dung sea urchin) were amazing, the anago (conger eel) was so tender, and I also appreciated that they recommended Japanese sake for us each time.

Sushi Shibakatsu is a hideaway sushi restaurant where you can enjoy sushi made with Special ingredients brought in daily from Tokyo's wholesale market. It stands quietly just a 2-minute walk from JR Funabashi Station.
The small interior has a calm feel and is by reservation only, with just 8 counter seats.
Photograph:酔狂老人卍
They offer only two types of Omakase courses, which you can choose based on your budget. Both include not only sushi, but also otsumami (small appetizers), tamagoyaki (Japanese rolled omelet), and soup.
The sushi, made with the best ingredients available at the time, is said to be fresh and delicious across the board. You can also order additional items, including ones not included in the course.
Photograph:稲葉のグルメ
The course starts with otsumami (small dishes). The lineup changes depending on the day, but you can enjoy 6〜7 items. Each one is carefully made and excellent, and they also explain each dish in detail.
They also offer a wide selection of drinks, including Japanese sake and wine, that pair well with the sushi and otsumami.
iryochin
Every a la carte dish and every piece of nigiri is high quality. Even I, who do not usually like oysters unless they are raw, found the kaki no aburani (oil simmered oysters) delicious. The akami nigiri (lean tuna nigiri) practically melts in your mouth even though it is lean tuna. When a restaurant makes shari (sushi rice) this good, everything you eat tastes great. The three of us also drank more than 1 sho of sake, including labels we had never tried before, and the buzz kicked in, making it a very fun gathering.

もとじ!
The chef's hospitality is probably what this place is known for. You can really feel the warmth and care. The food was also wonderful, and I enjoyed it very much. The selection of drinks is also very good, and good sake not listed on the menu kept coming out one after another. It made for a very pleasant evening. It was a great meal✨️

Sushi Sake Sakana Sugidama Nishifunabashi is a sushi spot just a 2-minute walk from JR Nishi-Funabashi Station. In addition to sushi, it offers a wide selection of Japanese dishes such as tempura and plenty of Japanese sake.
The stylish interior, marked by murals painted by artisans, includes counter seats, table seats, and zashiki (tatami seating). Reservations are recommended.

The popular signature item is the "Kiwami-zushi (premium sushi)," made with thick-cut toppings. It uses shari (seasoned sushi rice) blended with black vinegar and balsamic vinegar for a deep, rich flavor.
Everything is said to be fresh and delicious, but the "thick-cut salmon" is especially popular. Even though it is thickly cut, it is said to be so tender it practically melts in your mouth.
Photograph:tabe_kog
At lunchtime, this place is a great pick for people who want to enjoy sushi casually. They offer a wide range of good value set menus.
The photo shows the filling “Tempura Sushi Set (Take),” which comes with 10 pieces of sushi, tempura, and akadashi (red miso soup). Not only the sushi but also the tempura is said to be crisp and tasty.

Sugitama Nishifunabashi Ten had amazing value and the food was unbelievably good! The other day, I enjoyed outstanding sushi and tasty dishes at Sugitama Nishifunabashi Ten! I was especially impressed by how good the food was, including the melt-in-your-mouth Kiwami Sushi, and the great value too!✨Everything was delicious and went perfectly with drinks. With fresh toppings and a wide range of creative menu items, this is a place you will want to visit again and again!

I ordered the Kiwame Sushi Tanno 5-Piece Set, which includes nomeru saamon (salmon so soft it feels drinkable), one of the signature menu items. I was Manzoku with the toppings, but what surprised me the most was this black shari (sushi rice). It pairs well with the sushi and goes great with alcohol too. It looks good as well, so I can recommend it when eating with friends. They also have a full range of other otsumami (small dishes to go with drinks), so it seems like a place you would not get tired of no matter how many times you visit.

The interior has a calm atmosphere filled with the warmth of wood, with both counter and table seating. One of its big draws is that it stays open until late at night.

Made with fresh toppings and carefully formed by skilled itamae (sushi chefs), the sushi here is known for being consistently good and highly satisfying. Another nice point is that you can casually order from just 1 piece.
They also offer a wide selection of drinks, including local sake from Chiba Prefecture and Japanese sake that brings out the good flavors of the sushi. You can also enjoy seasonal limited-edition local sake.

The "Kaisen Bakudan Natto" in the photo is a recommended dish that pairs plenty of fresh seafood with natto (fermented soybeans), egg yolk, and more.
They also offer a wide range of à la carte dishes, including grilled and fried items, and they are all said to be tasty. Since it is a popular restaurant, reservations are recommended.
まりぱん
Personally, any sushi place that has me-negi (bud green onion) is a big winner for me. So Shari Zen was fantastic! It was also nice to see basashi (horse sashimi) among the toppings. Overall, it is reasonably priced, with a wide variety of toppings and a large menu. There are also lots of daily specials, making you want to visit in every season. The sushi chefs were friendly and smiled often, and it was a very comfortable sushi restaurant.

It was Friday evening, but we were lucky to get in without a reservation. We had the sashimi assortment of three kinds, Sea Bream soft roe ponzu, kuruma ebi (Japanese tiger prawn) grilled with salt, wasabi greens rolls, toro-taku rolls, and more. As usual, we filled up on the à la carte dishes before we even made it to the sushi.

Sushikatsu, tucked away just a 1-minute walk from Keisei Kaijin Station, is a long-standing sushi restaurant that has been loved by locals for years.
The interior has a calm atmosphere, with counter seats and zashiki (tatami seating) as well as a spacious second-floor seating area. It is popular, so it is better to visit with extra time to spare.
Photograph:taket815846
The sushi is well known not only for its fresh, tasty toppings, but also for being thick cut and satisfying to eat. The shari (sushi rice) is also said to be very good.
The “sushi nigiri (hand-formed sushi)” in the photo is one of the lunch menu options that lets you casually enjoy authentic nigiri sushi. It also comes with osuimono (clear soup), which is said to have a gentle flavor with a nice dashi taste.
Photograph:hie1027
They also offer courses that include sushi, sashimi, grilled dishes, dessert, and a range of other à la carte items. The contents seem to change depending on the day, but everything is said to be delicious. There is also an All you can drink option, which is a nice point for people who enjoy alcohol.
Another appealing point is that they also have bento (boxed meals) you can enjoy as Takeout.
ちんたくん
Even starting with the yamakake (grated yam over dashi) otoshi (small appetizer), you can tell they do not cut corners. It is a tekka-maki (tuna roll), but no matter how you taste it, it eats like a chutoro-maki (medium fatty tuna roll)〜. And then the anago-zushi (conger eel sushi)! It felt like a fine anago (conger eel) gently simmered until tender, the kind of thing that makes anyone happy. I also had salmon and hotate (scallop). I always think this, but the way they serve such generous toppings really shows the spirit of this restaurant.

It looked like a long-established sushi restaurant, so it took some courage to go in, but it wasn’t like that at all. The taisho (head chef) was very friendly, and it seems he has been running this place here in Funabashi Kaijin since 1971. The nigiri sushi had thick cuts of topping, which was Surprising!!

The sushi, made with fresh neta (toppings), shari (sushi rice) seasoned with akazu (red vinegar), and a house blend of soy sauce, is said to be very delicious.
The photo shows the "Yamato Nigiri," the most popular item on the lunch menu for casually enjoying sushi. Its beautiful presentation is part of the appeal. It also comes with salad, miso soup, and more.

They also offer a wide range of single dishes made with seafood and vegetables. It's a nice plus that they also have menu items for people who do not like fish. The tempura in the photo is said to be fried nice and crisp and very tasty.
They also have a full lineup of drinks, including Special Japanese sake selected from around Japan. Since it is a popular restaurant, reservations are recommended.
zutto666
The shari (sushi rice) is on the small side and bite-sized, which is really nice. The balance of sushi vinegar in the shari is also just right. As for the neta (sushi toppings), hmm, Manzoku. On top of that, the miso soup has a nice shrimp stock flavor. This is really deep and rich in taste. At the counter, people were having drinks in the daytime? Maybe regulars, and the atmosphere was warm and relaxed. I enjoyed the meal.

ひゆの908
At first, I came in for lunch. The lunch menu offered delicious sushi at reasonable prices. The chawanmushi (savory egg custard) that came with the set was piping hot, and they served each item at just the right pace. The taisho (head chef) behind the counter kept track of the guests and worked smoothly with the staff to keep the restaurant running efficiently. Then I wanted to try the a la carte dishes too… so I visited at night. The sushi ordered piece by piece was… just as good.

After a short wait, the sushi and miso soup arrived. Every topping was fresh, and the balance with the shari (sushi rice) was spot on. The engawa (flounder fin) in particular was rich with fat and had a melt-in-your-mouth texture that was excellent. Overall, the quality was high, and this content at this price felt like a great value. This is the perfect place when you want to casually enjoy good sushi.

I chose the Sora lunch course. A female chef shaped each piece of sushi one by one, which made lunch feel like a luxury. This time, we sat at the counter. Being able to ask about things like where the fish were caught made the meal feel even better. The otoro (fatty tuna) caught in Choshi and the bafun uni (short-spined sea urchin) from Hokkaido were outstanding. The tasting comparison of three kinds of asparagus was also very good. The mehikari (greeneye fish) tempura was light and flaky.

They serve the sushi at just the right moment, when the topping’s texture and flavor are at their best. For the shari (sushi rice), they use a blended vinegar made with akazu (red vinegar) and kurosu (black vinegar), which pairs perfectly with the toppings.

They offer an à la carte menu and three types of courses to choose from depending on the occasion. Course contents vary depending on what is available that day, but every dish is said to be excellent and very filling.
They also have a wide selection of good drinks, including Japanese sake and shochu, and it seems many people end up drinking a little too much.

I found myself craving sushi again, so this was my second visit this month. Today as well, I ordered à la carte. The taisho (head sushi chef) quickly made each piece. They served seasonal sanma (Pacific saury) lightly seared. It was really delicious. Also, I tried tuna tempura for the first time this visit, wrapped in oba (perilla leaf) and fried, which made it light and easy to eat, and that was also very good. I finished with toro-taku (fatty tuna and pickled daikon roll).

I visited for the first time for a special occasion, and the service was very attentive. Each sashimi dish was carefully prepared, and the drinks and sushi were both easy on the wallet and delicious. Being able to eat shinko (young gizzard shad) was especially the best part. It is also close to the station, so I would definitely like to visit again.

Kashiwa Sushi Hakuun is a hidden gem sushi restaurant on the 4th floor of a building along Reysol Road, just a 1-minute walk from the East Exit of JR Kashiwa Station.
Inside, the restaurant has a refined and calm Japanese-style space, with counter seats and Private room seating. You can enjoy authentic sushi made by a skilled chef who trained at a five-star hotel.
Photograph:TR1021
A key feature here is the use of fresh Special toppings delivered directly from Hokkaido every day. They carefully shape each piece one by one, bringing out the full natural flavor of the ingredients.
They offer several kinds of Omakase nigiri courses for both lunch and dinner. The contents vary by course, but each one also includes a selection of a la carte dishes.
If you want to enjoy sushi casually, the lunch-only Omakase nigiri course is a great choice. It includes 9 pieces of nigiri, a small rice bowl of ikura (salmon roe) like the one in the photo, a sushi roll, and aka-dashi (red miso soup). Ikura refers to the eggs of salmon or trout, known for their poppy texture.
They also offer a wide selection of drinks, including Japanese sake that pairs well with sushi.

The akami (lean tuna) gently fell apart the moment it hit the mouth, with rich umami that made each piece show the quality of the ingredient and the careful aging. The aji (horse mackerel) was surprisingly fresh and bright, with just the right amount of fat. It also had a great balance with the condiments, making it a memorable bite.

The course was not too much and not too little, and I appreciated that it was paced in a way that left room to enjoy the drinks. If you ask for the Japanese sake Omakase, they will serve something that matches the dish at just the right timing. The service is attentive, so I thought it would also be a good choice for a business dinner.

Sushi Kappo Sakaba Wimaru Hanare is a hidden gem sushi restaurant on the second floor of a building, a 5-minute walk from the East Exit of JR Kashiwa Station.
The interior has counter seats, table seats, and Semi-private room seating, creating a relaxed space. You can enjoy authentic sushi and standout dishes made with seasonal seafood sourced from the market.

A la carte nigiri sushi can be ordered from 1 piece. A key feature is that each piece is served with thickness, cutting style, and seasoning matched to the ingredient, and it has a reputation for being fresh and delicious.
For the shari (sushi rice), they use rice from Kashiwa, Chiba Prefecture, and vinegar blended from 3 kinds of akazu (red vinegar). The balance between the tang of the shari and the topping is said to be excellent.
Photograph:ty401
They also offer a full lineup of seasonal small plates and lightly seared dishes made with fresh seafood. Every item pairs very well with Japanese sake and shochu, according to reviews.
The tempura, fried until light and crisp, is also popular. The ingredients vary depending on what is available that day, but besides seafood, you can also enjoy seasonal vegetables.

The owner trained at famous restaurants in Kansai. On this day, I had bo-zushi (pressed sushi) made with their special red vinegar rice. The yuzu flavor came through nicely, and the saba (mackerel) paired perfectly with the red vinegar. I also appreciate that they make the rice in the light, fluffy style I like. Personally, this is my favorite sushi restaurant in Kashiwa.

The sashimi was fresh and delicious, and I had my favorite sawara (Spanish mackerel) with salt. The seasonal takenoko (bamboo shoots) and hotaruika (firefly squid) stir fried in butter were both excellent. Of course, I also enjoyed the nigiri, which was tasty as well. The Wagyu nigiri had tender meat that melted in my mouth.

[Shiroi City, Chiba Prefecture] Restaurants with Great Sushi
Photograph:tabelog.com
Aiba is a place where you can casually enjoy authentic sushi and Japanese cuisine made with Special seafood. It is located along Kazama Kaido, an 8-minute walk from Nishishiroi Station on the Hokuso Line.
The interior is a calm Japanese-style space and is said to be very comfortable. It has counter seats, table seats, and Sunken kotatsu seating that feels like a Private room.
Photograph:へむおくんママ
The sushi here pays close attention to everything from the freshness of the toppings to their production regions, and people say it is not only delicious but also comes with thick cuts that make it very satisfying to eat. The tuna uses wild caught fish, and is said to offer a melt in your mouth texture and rich flavor.
If you are not sure what to order, the “Special Gokujo Nigiri assortment” packed with recommendations is a great choice. The photo shows two servings.
Photograph:toxxt571
The dishes other than sushi are also very good, and the lunch that lets you casually enjoy a wide range of menu items is popular. The "Sushi Soba Gozen set" in the photo is a hearty Gozen set with sushi, tempura, soba, and more, letting you enjoy Japanese cuisine.
They also offer a good selection of kids' sets that come with toys, so families with children can dine here with peace of mind.

・Hinoki ita-mori (cypress board assortment)
The 8 pieces had thick cuts of topping, and every one of them was very tasty. The fried oysters were also crispy on the outside and light inside! We were able to relax in the Private room tatami seating with a horigotatsu (sunken floor seating) setup. It felt a little luxurious for me, and both the food and atmosphere were very satisfying, so next time I’d like to visit for some kind of celebration♪

・Sushi Soba Gozen set
There’s something irresistible about the luxury of enjoying small portions of delicious food and tasting many different kinds at once. If that still doesn’t feel like enough, you can order extra sushi one piece at a time, so you can enjoy the world of sushi to the fullest without holding back. Since this is a restaurant rooted in the local community, the prices are also very reasonable, and the value for money is excellent.

【Kisarazu City and Sodegaura City, Chiba Prefecture】Restaurants with Great Sushi
Kaiten Sushi Yamato Sodegaura Ekimae Ten is on Narawa Kita-dori, a 2-minute walk from JR Sodegaura Station. This popular kaiten-zushi (conveyor belt sushi) restaurant is run directly by a seafood company, making it easy to enjoy sushi made with high quality fresh fish.
The interior, with counter seats and box seats, is said to be spacious and bright.
Photograph:chee50
Making the most of the strengths of its seafood company, this place uses only top quality fish carefully selected by professionals. Every topping is, of course, fresh and delicious, and they are also thick cut and satisfying to eat.
The photo shows the ever popular number one item, “Yamato 5-kan (5 pieces).” You can enjoy 1 piece of otoro (fatty tuna), 1 piece of chutoro (medium fatty tuna), and 3 pieces of daily fresh fish.
Photograph:81082d
The lunch menu that comes with miso soup is also popular. They offer a wide selection of nigiri sushi sets and seafood Rice bowls.
The photo shows the popular standard item, the "kaisendon (seafood Rice bowl)." It is generously topped with nine kinds of very fresh neta (sushi toppings), including tuna, salmon, shrimp, and squid. The miso soup is also said to be tasty, with a good dashi flavor.

Once you visit Yamato, there are so many kinds of sushi you will want to try that it is hard to choose. You will want to order the recommended items written on the signs inside the restaurant, and of course the Jo Nakaochi that was sold out last time, plus the aji fry (fried horse mackerel) I always have to get on every visit! This time, I had the aji fry with the pink rock salt and lemon on the table (highly recommended!)

I really wanted to eat maguro (tuna), so I ordered three kinds of maguro all at once. The three were akami (lean tuna), chutoro (medium fatty tuna), and otoro (fatty tuna). They were incredibly delicious. I was Surprising. Maybe because this is Chiba, even the soy sauce tastes great. The silver-skinned fish was also good, but I ended up ordering the maguro again and again.

"Sushi Ikkai" is located inside Toriisaki Club HOTEL&SEAFOODS, with the concept of a sushi auberge.
In an elegant Japanese-style space with counter seats and Private room, you can enjoy authentic sushi prepared by a sushi chef who honed his skills for many years at famous restaurants. It is about a 15-minute walk from JR Kisarazu Station.
Photograph:ぽんぽこグルメ冒険記
For both lunch and dinner, they mainly serve Omakase courses. The sushi toppings mainly use fish caught in Tokyo Bay, and they seem to offer many creative sushi pieces.
Every topping is said to be very fresh and delicious. It seems you can also choose the size of the shari (sushi rice), so if you prefer smaller portions, ordering a smaller size is recommended.
Photograph:usagi199
The evening "Sushi Kaiseki (Omakase)" and the daytime "Sushi Course Ikkai" also include single dishes made with seasonal ingredients. They are all known for being refined and delicious, and their beautiful presentation is part of the appeal.
People with allergies or ingredients they do not like can also dine here with peace of mind. The restaurant will check when you make a reservation.
ぽんぽこグルメ冒険記
The sushi is stunning, and the chutoro (medium fatty tuna) and akami (lean tuna) strike a perfect balance of rich fat and umami. The melt-in-your-mouth chutoro and the deep flavor of the firm akami bring out the full appeal of sushi. The uni (sea urchin) is also amazingly fresh, and the moment it hits your mouth, its ocean aroma and rich sweetness spread across your palate, leaving a luxurious finish.

The sushi uses akashari (red vinegared rice) and comes in bite size pieces, which is just the right amount for some guests. The aji (horse mackerel) and saba (mackerel) were especially good, and richer toppings like fatty tuna and kinmedai (golden eye snapper) were served lightly seared. The soup was also tasty, with very tender hamaguri (hard clam) in the clear broth and asari (Manila clams) in the red miso soup. Since we were the only customers there, the taisho (chef-owner) chatted with us in a friendly way, and we had a great time.

[Kamogawa City, Chiba Prefecture] Restaurants with Great Sushi
Photograph:tabelog.com
Sushi Sasamoto, a 5-minute walk from JR Awa-Kamogawa Station, is a long-running sushi restaurant founded in 1977 that has been loved by locals for years.
This two-story restaurant has counter seats, Sunken kotatsu seating, and zashiki (tatami room) seating. In its calm Japanese-style setting, you can enjoy creative sushi and à la carte dishes made with seasonal ingredients and local fish.
Photograph:ぽるまっくす
The “Jizakana Sushi (local fish sushi)” set is a standard menu item that lets you enjoy 8 pieces of sushi centered on jizakana (local fish) and 1 hand roll. It is served a few pieces at a time, about every 3 pieces.
The selection changes depending on the day, but it is well known for letting you fully enjoy local seafood and offering a high level of satisfaction. It also pairs very well with alcohol.
Photograph:ごまねこ_
The most popular choice is the Omakase course, where you can enjoy jizakana sushi (local fish sushi) and daily changing kobachi (small side dishes). It also comes with the "yaki-zushi" the restaurant recommends as a must-try dish in the photo.
"Yaki-zushi" is sushi that has only the skin on the surface of the topping lightly grilled, which concentrates the flavor between the skin and the flesh, and it has a reputation for being excellent.
ホリ インゴ ベルナブレスデ トウキョウ
A sushi restaurant in Kamogawa where you can enjoy local fish. I ordered the jizakana sushi set (local fish sushi set). The sushi rice portions were on the smaller side, but after finishing the whole set I was very full and Manzoku. There were many unusual rolled sushi options, which made the meal fun. The owner and staff were both polite, and it was a very homey sushi restaurant.

I have been a repeat customer for over 10 years. No matter what you eat, the freshness and taste of the neta (sushi toppings) are always spot on, and I am completely Manzoku every time. The standout items might be the yaki-zushi (grilled sushi) and gratin. Whenever I go to Sasamoto, I always order them. The Omakase course may be the best value. The Japanese sake is also good.
