Aya tori Tori

This yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) restaurant is in a quiet area, about a 3-minute walk from the Iriya Exit of JR Ueno Station.

It also has counter seats where you can watch the yakitori being prepared, so you can enjoy your meal with a real live feel. It is also equipped with horigotatsu-style Sunken kotatsu seating.

The owner, who trained at a well-known restaurant, grills juicy yakitori over bincho-tan (high-grade Japanese charcoal) and firewood.

They use different chicken brands for different cuts, including Suigo Akadori and Date-dori. They also seem to have a wide selection of drinks that pair well with Yakiniku, making it a great spot for an izakaya-style visit too.

The menu centers on courses. For those who want to enjoy not only yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) but also a la carte dishes, the "Irodori Tori Course" comes recommended.

Creative dishes made with seasonal ingredients are served between the yakitori, so you can enjoy the meal all the way through without getting tired of it.

ガルベス

Every yakitori (grilled chicken skewer) is carefully grilled with a nice smoky aroma, and the creative à la carte dishes are also high quality and very satisfying. The chicken ramen I had at the end was especially outstanding, and I was surprised by the soup's deep richness and umami.

The sasami (chicken tender) was so moist, and it was the best sasami I’ve ever had! The salad was also great, and the dressing was really good. The noodles at the end were also delicious, with plenty of chicken broth flavor. The Japanese sake was cheap and tasty too, and I’m very Manzoku! I’ll definitely come again.

They offer a large selection of Japanese sake that pairs perfectly with shellfish dishes, with more than 90 kinds available at all times.

The carefully selected Japanese sake, gathered from across Japan, is all available with an unlimited All you can drink plan, except for the seasonal limited menu.

ぎょうざじろう

This was my first time eating shellfish this thoroughly!! The 3-item assortment was especially recommended...! Everything was so fresh and incredibly good. They also had a wide selection of Japanese sake, so I got to enjoy many different kinds. The restaurant was clean, and the wood-based interior felt calm and relaxing. It was also my first time trying hotate (scallop) namero, and it was such a great dish that I could snack on it forever.

One of the big draws is being able to enjoy fresh shellfish prepared in many ways, such as sashimi, grilled, and sake steamed dishes, with the Fresh Scent of the Ocean and rich flavor spreading with every bite. The grilled shellfish in particular is fragrant and brings out the natural sweetness of the ingredients. It also pairs perfectly with alcohol, and it was a wonderful experience that felt happier with every bite.

The Shizuoka specialty Shizuoka oden (Shizuoka-style oden) is also said to be a must-try dish. Despite its dark appearance, it seems to be known for its slightly sweet broth.

pipipi_xx

Every dish is carefully prepared, and it feels like a real treat to enjoy the local flavors just as they are in Tokyo. The best item of all was the “mebou-kushi (skewered dried squid beak)”! This rare delicacy is made from the dried mouth part of squid, with a toasty aroma and concentrated umami. They cut it into small pieces, and it was perfect as a snack to go with drinks.

They also offer a wide selection of jizake (local sake) and shochu, along with a full lineup of dishes that make the most of ingredients from Izu beyond oden. The small, calm space lets the high quality of the food and drinks stand out. It is often hard to get in without a reservation, so booking in advance is recommended. Toribancho Ueno Showa Dori Ten

An izakaya where you can enjoy shichirin yakitori (charcoal-grilled skewered chicken) and the house specialty, whole roasted chicken. It has great access not only from Ueno Station, but also from Okachimachi Station and Naka-Okachimachi Station.

The interior has the feel of a Showa retro taishu sakaba (casual Japanese pub), making it just right for having a lively time with friends.

Chicken Yakiniku is served in a style where you grill it yourself over a shichirin (small charcoal grill) at the table. People say the aroma of charcoal really whets the appetite.

The "meibutsu (house specialty) whole roasted chicken" is first cooked on a roaster by the staff, then cut right in front of you. They say the texture is irresistible, moist inside and crisp on the outside.

All of the chicken dishes are said to be fragrant and juicy, with flavors that pair perfectly with drinks.

They have a great selection of alcoholic drinks, and even the highballs alone come in about 13 varieties, including “fresh lemon,” “sudachi (Japanese citrus),” and “Cola.”

This time, we chose the course with the specialty whole roasted chicken + All you can drink for 2 hours, and added a few à la carte dishes. The whole roasted chicken was bigger than expected, with crispy skin, juicy meat, and crunchy cartilage!! The staff carved it while explaining each part, which made it feel entertaining.

Nodoguro no Akubi Okachimachi Ten

This seafood izakaya is popular for letting guests relax and take their time while enjoying seasonal dishes from Niigata and Sado, along with local sake.

Located on a basement level, the restaurant has a modern Japanese atmosphere, with a traditional Japanese space that feels like visiting a ryokan (traditional inn) in Niigata. Private room seating is also available.

They source a wide variety of seafood from Sadogashima (Sado Island), located in the middle of the Sea of Japan. It looks like you can enjoy market-fresh sashimi here.

They also offer a wide selection of local Niigata sake, and if you want to try a little of different kinds, the 6-type sake tasting menu is also recommended.

Among the many fish dishes on offer, nodoguro (blackthroat seaperch), a specialty from Sado in Niigata, is said to be especially popular and is often called “the toro of white fish.”

The charcoal grilled “nodoguro no moshio-yaki (nodoguro grilled with seaweed salt)” is said to be rich and full of fat, with a melt in your mouth texture.

Since it was called an izakaya (Japanese pub), I expected it to be more crowded, but the inside had a calm atmosphere with jazz playing. It was a very comfortable place to spend time. I felt I couldn’t skip the nodoguro (blackthroat seaperch) on the restaurant’s sign, so I ordered it first. I had it grilled with mo-shio (seaweed salt). The flesh was rich with fat, very tender, slightly sweet, and delicious.

ゆいまる715

I was looking for a seafood restaurant in Ueno and found this place. The exterior and interior were both clean and nice, and it seemed very easy to use. They had a wide selection of both drinks and food. I especially liked the Sea Bream rice cooked in a pot! It was also great that you could pour dashi over it and enjoy it like ochazuke (tea over rice).

The inside is a cozy space where you can relax without feeling formal, making it easy to use for a wide range of occasions.

The signature menu item, “7-byo de Shiawase ni Nareru Gyutan Negi Shabu-shabu,” is said to be ordered by 90% of customers.

When you swish the thinly sliced gyutan (beef tongue) through the secret golden broth and eat it, the sweet fat spreads across your mouth. The heaping pile of negi (green onions) makes a big impact.

Boiled Beef Tongue is also one of the signature menu items. It is popular for its melt-in-your-mouth texture, so tender that you can easily cut it with chopsticks.

The special dashi (Japanese soup stock) blends perfectly with the rich flavor of the Beef Tongue, and it seems to pair great with alcohol as well. Some people say they are amazed by how incredibly tender it is.

真母衣波

The thick cut grilled Beef Tongue is thick yet tender and juicy, and the boiled Beef Tongue is so soft you hardly need teeth♡ And the gyutan negi shabu-shabu (Beef Tongue and green onion hotpot) is amazing, with not just the tongue but also the green onions and broth tasting great.

Kimura-san’s recommended drinks are the carefully sourced Setoda Lemon series, made with lemons bought directly from farmers, and the Kin no Matcha High! I ordered the dry lemon sour, and true to its dry style, it was super refreshing and great for people who do not like sweet drinks◎For the matcha high, you can clearly see them whisk the matcha fresh for each glass, and it is rich yet clean, and I really love this!!

The spring-like takenoko (bamboo shoots) tempura was served with salt. On a cold night, the top quality aburi motsu nabe (seared offal Hot Pot) plus champon noodles made a perfect finish. I ordered okonomiyaki (Japanese savory pancake), and it had a light, fluffy texture that made it easy to finish in no time. The green onion salt in particular was simple but never got old, and it paired perfectly with beer. The restaurant has a lively atmosphere that makes it just right for having a fun time with friends.

The fully private room setup gives you great privacy. And above all, the menu has a huge variety of options. They even have ise-ebi (spiny lobster), which was a big Manzoku◎When we ordered the skewer assortment, they even brought separate chopsticks for sharing, so the hospitality was excellent too. The recommendation is the fried oysters. The large oysters are lightly fried and very tasty, so definitely give them a try!

Torimichi Sakaba Ueno Honten

This izakaya is popular for its wide range of jidori (local chicken) dishes made with branded chicken. It also has a good reputation for its lively, welcoming atmosphere.

With a full range of seating including counter seats, terrace seats, and Private rooms, it looks like a great choice for all kinds of occasions, from drinking solo to Banquets.

They offer jidori (local free-range chicken), organic vegetables, and a lineup of sake and shochu specially selected by the owner, and you can order either a la carte or as a course.

The "Shiro Reba no Sashimi" is known for its soft, jiggly texture. Made with fresh chicken processed that morning, this popular dish sometimes sells out by the evening.

The kushiyaki (grilled skewers) are slowly grilled over binchotan (high-grade Japanese charcoal), and you can order them from 2 skewers. This place is also a good pick when you're looking for casual snacks to enjoy.

With skilled technique, they change the grilling method depending on the ingredient, so you can fully enjoy the rich flavor of the meat.

In addition to the classic skewers, you can also enjoy creative skewers and seasonal vegetable skewers, so it never gets boring. The drink selection is also extensive, with shochu, Japanese sake, lemon sour, and more, and the prices are easy on the wallet. The lemon sour in particular has a clean taste that pairs perfectly with the skewers. The interior feels clean, and the staff’s smiles also leave a strong impression.

The skewers grilled over binchotan (high-grade charcoal) are richly aromatic, and the tasty flavors of items like white liver and bonjiri (chicken tail) stand out in particular. Pairing them with the wide selection of Japanese sake makes the flavors shine even more.

There was also a wide selection of drinks, and lots of food options too. Sashimi, fried dishes, and even desserts were All you can eat. The dashimaki tamago (Japanese rolled omelet) was slightly sweet and tasty too. For the fried dishes, something like cheese haru-maki (spring rolls)? came out piping hot and was the best!
