　富山八尾は坂の町である。かつて八尾は飛騨往還の物資の中継ぎ所で、富山藩の御納戸所と呼ばれるほど栄えていた。井田川の袂から、石垣の坂道を登って行くと、浄土宗聞名寺や曳山展示場ががあり、さらに進んで若宮八幡社で振り返ると、辺りはまるで時間が止まったような、綺麗な千本格子の続く通りである。日本の道百選に取り上げられた諏訪町の石畳のきれいな道である。

　その坂道の小口にある風庵の蕎麦屋の暖簾を潜る。鰻の寝床のような店は、前から蕎麦打ち場、テーブルのある座敷、カウンターと続く。最近は畳の上のテーブルが辛くなってきたので、カウンターに陣取る。壁には八尾の５月の曳山祭りや９月のおわら風の盆のポスターが貼ってある。

　歩き疲れたので、生ビールを頂く。喉に冷えたビールが染み渡る。あてにはイカと里芋の煮つけで頂くが、やわらかい里芋の風味がなんとも言えない。お連れさんは山菜の緑色が鮮やかな天ぷらそばを啜る。私はぶっかけおろしそばを注文。出てきたおろしはそれほど辛くなく、胃袋にすうっと入っていく。まるで胡弓の音のような繊細な蕎麦でした。
