Born in Yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) Koizumi (Higashi Ome) |
During the hot days, I find myself craving stamina-boosting food.
When I think of that, foods that contain iron and vitamins B1 and B2 come to mind.
Since eel can be expensive, I figured a more affordable option like liver and bean sprouts would be just right.
Speaking of which, I recalled what my food reviewer recommended about this place, and off I went!
I arrived around 1 PM, but the parking lot was packed.
While this place seems to be primarily a nighttime izakaya, you can tell they're also focusing on lunch.
Fortunately, there was one seat available at the counter, so I squeezed in between a solo female diner and an older gentleman, feeling a bit apologetic.
I skimmed through the menu and, without hesitation, decided on the liver and bean sprouts stir-fry set meal (JPY 950).
Since the fried chicken was also cheap (JPY 280), I thought, why not add it?
I glanced at the girl next to me, who was enjoying simmered fish.
Ah, I see... it's the limited 15 servings of simmered black cod.
It also comes with vegetable tempura, and it looked both generous and delicious.
Just that was enough to give me a glimpse of the potential of this set meal.
Seems like lunch at an izakaya has a surprisingly high success rate.
Though it took a little while, the steaming plate of liver finally arrived.
Oh, wow.
This is quite the thick and juicy liver I see!
There were eight pieces, and they were incredibly satisfying.
The garlic definitely packed a punch, making it easy to pair with rice.
Thank you, my reviewer!
What impressed me was the soup.
Instead of miso soup, it was somen noodles!
And they weren't overcooked either.
This particular day was a scorcher, and it felt refreshing to have that.
It's those little thoughtful touches that are really appreciated.
Oh, and it reminded me—my mom would always toss leftover somen noodles into the miso soup the next morning.
I wasn't a fan of that, haha.
Is that a common thing in Kansai?
