50年(！)の歴史を持つ帝国ホテル本館1Fのオリジナルフードストア。御三家の中でもアクセスに優れる立地で、ホテルファンのみならず庶民にも開かれた、帝国ブランドの裾野を拡げた場所という印象。
帝国ホテル自体は大規模な建て替えが予定されておりますが、ガルガンチュアもその風景を変えるのでしょうね。
日曜15:00頃に寄ってみると入場制限で少しだけ入店を待つ格好となりました。いつも賑わっていますよね。
「帝国ホテルの味をご家庭で」をコンセプトに、パン、ペストリー、惣菜、冷凍食品等の豊富なラインナップが陳列されています。この日のお目当てはケーキなので、邪念を振り払い一目散にコーナーへ。
熟慮の末、次の2点をチョイス。
歴史に堅実な美味しさを感じます。
● アルハンブラ
50周年記念の復刻メニューであるチョコレートケーキ。スペインの世界遺産からネーミングされており、フォルムも宮殿の屋根を思わせる。チョコレートは「濃厚」と銘打たれておりましたが、そこまでしつこく無く、口溶けの良いムースと折り重なっていて非常に食べ易い。
● 抹茶と和三盆エクレア
ガルガンチュアのエクレアは見た目も華やかお洒落で、なおかつ美味しい。その中でもこの和風フレーバーは渋みと甘さが見事なバランスでサンドされており、エクレアにして和菓子の満足感すら感じさせるスマッシュヒットでした。
