タイ料理には縁がないのだが、どうやら地下街の筋を間違えたらしく、それが良いほうに転んで、この店の前に立つことになった。
タイには20回を超えて行っているが、その間、現地でタイ料理を食べたことは1、2回。
極端な偏食なので、鶏肉、魚介類は一切口にせず、現地の料理には嫌いなものがいっぱい入っているので敬遠している。
だから利用するのは、まい泉、CoCo壱番屋、鶴(うどん)、一蘭、シズラー、大戸屋、等々。
つまりは日本の食堂が主である。
そしていまは糖質オフ期間。
偶然出会った「ガァウタイ」の店頭メニューで、野菜料理はないかと探したところ、
・青パパイヤのサラダ(ソムタイ)があった。
注文していただいたところ、これが実に美味しい、期待を超える味。
青パパイヤとニンジンの千切りをガーリックと香辛料で味つけしてあり、ほんの少し甘酸っぱさが口に広がり、ピリッと辛さが舌をつく。
その間を小さな小さなエビとピーナッツの風味が美味しさをアップさせる。
(辛さは4段階あって好みで選べます)
これ、日本のソムタイだから味が洗練されていて、日本人の舌に合うのだと思う。
もう一品、「タイ式たまご焼き」。
カリッとまではいかないが、かた焼きで、ぼくの好きな範疇。
ソースは香辛料。
日本で初めてのタイ料理の美味しさを知った。
