I went ice fishing for wakasagi at Lake Tachiwa, but only caught one fish and ended up with two Shinano Yukimasu instead.
They were about 15 centimeters long, so I released them.
Since this place is the closest onsen, I headed to Takimi no Yu, where I discovered that by registering as a LINE friend, I could get a free coupon!
After enjoying the free hot spring, I purchased a meal ticket at 5:50 PM on Saturday and handed over the stub to sit wherever I liked.
I chose the Aki set meal for JPY 1450.
When I pressed the button for the set meal option on the ticket machine, the Aki set meal with large soba was highlighted in red (laughs).
I only had JPY 450 in change and wanted to use it up, so I opted for the regular size.
About 10 minutes later, my number was called, and I went to pick it up.
The Shinano Yukimasu was served as fried fish.
(There’s also a standalone option for the fried Shinano Yukimasu at JPY 800.)
I wanted to try it as sashimi, but I heard it doesn’t last long, so they served it fried instead.
The white fish was crispy and well-fried, with the skin, scales, head, and bones all crunchy, making it delicious but difficult to eat with chopsticks.
The zaru soba looked small, but it was beautifully cut into fine strands, which was satisfying.
I wasn't sure what to do with the grated yam, but I added it to the soba dipping sauce and when the soba was gone, I poured it over the rice to enjoy, feeling very satisfied (laughs).
There were also nozawana pickles included, making it a memorable meal that reminded me I was in Nagano Prefecture.
The water tasted incredibly refreshing, so I should have sat closer to the water cooler, as I ended up sitting far away and it was a hassle to keep getting up to refill my cup.
