I've been following the food blogger's social media, and something caught my attention, so I had this restaurant tucked away in my mind for a while.
The couple runs the place only on weekends, but I happened to remember it while staying over the weekend, so I decided to check it out.
Located quietly in a grove, the single-story house is set back from the road, making it easy to pass by without noticing. I had to turn back after driving past, park, and walk to the entrance, where I found a table displaying about seven samples of today's offerings.
I quickly chose the sweet red bean-filled mochi. I asked to eat it at the table under the eaves. Wow, it was delicious! The mochi was soft, and the beans provided a perfect contrast in texture and bite. The sweet red bean paste had just the right amount of sweetness—a delightful bean daifuku that reminded me of a renowned shop in Gokokuji.
While chatting with the owner, I learned that they used to have a shop in Minami Aoyama for over a decade before moving to Karuizawa about two years ago. I can't believe such a delicious bean daifuku was so close to my former office!
If you're in Karuizawa for the weekend, be sure to treat yourself to this amazing bean daifuku! (It's a very small place, so please visit quietly and incognito.)
