| Remarks |
Karuizawa Ristorante Kobayashi has relocated and reopened in Karuizawa, a charming Italian restaurant nestled in a house surrounded by fields, with the majestic Mount Asama watching over it (pets allowed under certain conditions). Former head chef Takayoshi Kobayashi from Aoyama Sabatini has moved to Karuizawa in 2023 from Meguro. |

2023 July Relocation OPEN Limited to 4 groups per day A house restaurant with a stunning view of Mount Asama, nestled in a lush green field
Enjoy Roman cuisine in a private space with only two seats.Chef Takayoshi Kobayashi, with 40 years of experience in Italian cooking, has relocated from Meguro after falling in love with the ingredients of Shinshu. |
First, we had two types of amuse-bouche.
Following that, there was an impressive array of 10 different bite-sized snacks, resembling an extension of the amuse-bouche.
After a 20-gram serving of peach cold pasta, we enjoyed smoked Shinshu salmon and Shinshu chicken cutlet.
At this point, I was already quite full, but the chef informed us that the famous carbonara can be made in any amount up to 100 grams.
I was advised that some women eat 100 grams, but I appreciated the chef's words that it’s better for diners to feel full and leave some behind than to leave feeling hungry, so I decided to go ahead with 80 grams.
I was stuffed!
Dessert and iced coffee were served for a delightful finish.
The bill was straightforward, with one drink included, and there were no hidden service charges or unclear taxes, common in Karuizawa.
I felt completely at ease enjoying my meal.
There were two types of additional glasses of wine, priced at JPY 1000 and JPY 1500, including Japanese wine from Nagano and Italian wine.
It opened in June of this year and is still not widely known, so I’d love to return before it becomes famous.
It was a great meal.
