In the forest heading from Karuizawa to Shinano-Oiwake,
there's a building that resembles a villa, beyond a spacious parking lot.
Originally, there was an eat-in option,
but recently it has become take-away only.
Delicious sweets made with kuromoji are on display in the showcase.
The refreshing fragrance of kuromoji, a type of Japanese herb,
is just delightful to imagine.
On top of the showcase, a cut branch of kuromoji was placed,
allowing you to experience its aroma firsthand.
On this day, I purchased the following:
1. Kuromoji Pudding
JPY 370
A light panna cotta topped with kuromoji jelly.
The red jelly provides a refreshing flavor.
I took this to enjoy on the tree-lined path in front of the shop,
capturing a beautiful shot with the avenue—an experience unique to Karuizawa.
2. Kuromoji Madeleine
JPY 200
A small-sized madeleine here,
with a subtle hint of kuromoji.
3. Kuromoji Chocolate
JPY 220
According to the owner, "Chocolate and kuromoji go well together."
And indeed, they do.
4. Sansho Chocolate
JPY 220
This one was surprisingly spicy, making my lips tingle
due to the sansho. Yet, it was incredibly delicious.
In addition, there are fruit anmitsu and various Japanese sweets available.
Kuromoji is still not widely known,
with recognition often limited to being a toothpick,
so I hope to see it utilized more in the future.
