Lunch in December is available only for three days, so today it was fully booked in advance.
Since I had made a reservation during my last visit, I entered the restaurant at 12:30 PM for my return since last month.
Today's daily special was fried sardines...but since I had sardines at home yesterday, I ordered the Bolognese for JPY 1100 instead.
It took about 15 minutes from ordering to food delivery, which is acceptable considering it's a one-person operation.
First, the salad was served—broccoli and lettuce with a refreshing French dressing.
After the salad, the Bolognese arrived in a rice bowl, topped with generous chunks of meat and sprinkled with cheese, giving it a stylish appearance.
The taste and portion were both excellent.
As always, it’s a popular place and quite busy.
I made a reservation for dinner next January before leaving.
It was a great meal.
Top-Class Lunch in Nakakaruizawa
Lunch at "Mon loup" in front of Nakakaruizawa Station (North Exit) was well worth it.
The December lunch specials are available only on three days (5th, 18th, and 20th), so I anticipated a crowd and arrived 10 minutes early at 11:20 AM.
When I got there, the restaurant was fully booked with reservations, and I was told it would be free after 1 PM, so I made a reservation for then and left for a while.
I returned at 1 PM.
The interior of the restaurant has 5 counter seats, 1 table for 4, and 1 table for 2, accommodating a maximum of 11 guests.
For lunch, there are four options: a daily set meal (price may vary), European-style chicken curry at JPY 1300, Japanese-style mentaiko pasta at JPY 1100, and a tomato-rich Bolognese at JPY 1100.
Today's daily set meal was a simmered Hamburg steak at JPY 1100, which was still available, so I ordered that.
I had expected some wait time since there was only one staff member, but my meal arrived in about 10 minutes.
I also decided to order a lunch beer at JPY 550.
The set meal featured a hearty simmered Hamburg steak as the main dish, accompanied by a small bowl of shredded chicken, a small bowl of potato salad, a small bowl of kinpira gobo (simmered burdock), as well as miso soup with nameko mushrooms and rice.
Each dish was carefully prepared and exceptionally delicious.
For JPY 1100, the quality of this lunch in Karuizawa is outstanding.
I plan to visit for dinner next time.

2020.6.11 |
I visited at 6 PM with my wife to celebrate our wedding anniversary.
Of course, I made a reservation beforehand.
We started with a bottle of beer (Ichiban Shibori) for JPY 800.
For food, we ordered the 'Homemade Bacon and Hearty Egg Potato Salad with Homemade Mayonnaise' for JPY 680 and the 'Rich Peanut Butter Bang Bang Chicken Salad' for JPY 980.
The potato salad is a popular choice among customers.
The Bang Bang Chicken salad was truly delicious.
For additional drinks, we ordered a glass of house red wine (South Africa) for JPY 880.
We also added the 'Chicken Liver Pâté' for JPY 980 and 'Meat-Wrapped Turnip' for JPY 1300.
The pâté came with crackers and was a flavorful liver spread; the meat-wrapped turnips were sweet with a perfect balance of turnip and meat in six pieces.
To finish, we ordered 'Tuna and Avocado with Yuzu Pepper' for JPY 980 and closed with 'European-Style Chicken Curry' for JPY 1600.
The tuna and avocado had just enough yuzu pepper for those who might not like it.
The curry was rich and delicious.
We enjoyed a selection of dishes including one bottle of beer, three glasses of red wine, potato salad, Bang Bang Chicken, liver pâté, meat-wrapped turnips, tuna avocado, and chicken curry, all for under JPY 10,000—truly an excellent value.
It was a great meal. I'll definitely come back!
