I had been wanting to visit "Jose Luis" in Shibuya, but ultimately found myself at the Karuizawa location instead.
Since it was during lunchtime, I ordered the lunch course for JPY 2500. It included a plate with about five types of salad and pintxos, a drink, and a choice of main dish.
As there were two of us, we decided to try two main dishes:
- The signature Fideuà with rich shrimp broth (a pasta version of paella)
This dish was flavorful with a rich American-style sauce, featuring thin pasta and topped with a piece of shrimp kadayif.
- Squid Ink Caldereta in a Clay Pot (a porridge-style paella with extra broth)
In this case, it was more of a squid ink-infused porridge than traditional paella.
Both dishes were light in composition, making them just right for women, though slightly less filling for men.
We concluded our meal with a Basque Cheesecake for an additional JPY 400.
Located on the first floor of the Twin Line Hotel, it maintains the hotel’s design while paying attention to the dinnerware and furniture.
The flavor and presentation of the dishes definitely met the expectations set by Jose Luis. However, for JPY 2500, I would have appreciated a bit more attentive service and an overall sense of depth in the dining experience.
