In Karuizawa, I spend about 10 days around Golden Week every year and a month during the summer.
It's quite challenging to find opportunities to eat fish, but I remembered my son saying how delicious the set meal here was, so I decided to visit.
The restaurant opens at 11:30, and when I arrived around 11:20, there were already 10 people in line.
I managed to get a seat in the first round, but it seems they can only grill fish for about 5 to 6 people at a time, so it took a while to be served.
The grilling time was about 20 minutes per round, so the first 6 customers were served around 11:50, about 20 minutes after opening, while we, in the second round, received our meals around 12:10, 40 minutes after entering.
This might have been specific to that day, but surprisingly, groups arriving around 12:30 were seated quickly, swapping with those who came right after opening, and they didn’t have to wait long for their meals.
The taste of this popular restaurant was impressive; the Spanish mackerel I had was plump and delicious.
The mackerel my companion had also looked appetizing.
Refills for rice are an additional JPY 200.
The set meal was listed as JPY 1200 in my research, but due to rising prices, it had increased to JPY 1500.
The miso soup and side dishes had a comforting Japanese feel, which was very soothing.
I would love to visit again when time allows.
I noticed some guests ordered coffee for JPY 200 and almond tofu for JPY 400 after their meal, and I would like to experience that leisurely time as well.
I’m also interested in the ginger ice cream for JPY 400.
Thank you for the meal!
