Located by the shores of Lake Shiozawa, this restaurant is situated within "Karuizawa Taliesin," a paid facility (entrance fee: JPY 800 for adults) that houses two restaurants: "Restaurant Kosui" and "Karuizawa Burger Company." "Restaurant Kosui" has a diner-like menu, while "Karuizawa Burger Company" is a takeout place where you can enjoy your meal at tables with umbrellas facing the lakeside.
During this visit to the facility, I found it to be a relaxing escape from the hustle and bustle of central Karuizawa. You can reach it from Karuizawa for just JPY 100 by taking the loop bus. There are various activities available, such as walking along the lakeside or taking a boat ride.
The burgers are priced at JPY 1,200 for a standard burger and JPY 1,800 for a double. However, I was quite full this time, so I opted for the shaved ice instead.
I ordered the natural water shaved ice for JPY 800, with syrup choices of Nagano Purple, Kogyoku apple, or peach. I chose "Nagano Purple," and they finely shaved the ice after receiving my order, crafting the shave ice beautifully. The "Nagano Purple" syrup had a genuine fruit juice flavor. However, I must admit that JPY 800 does seem a bit high. Since I visited in the peak summer, the daytime temperatures in Karuizawa reached between 28 to 30 degrees Celsius, making this a refreshing treat reminiscent of summer in Japan.
I hope it's forgiven that I ordered shaved ice at a burger shop.
