Lunch in Karuizawa is always a challenge for me. I tend to overindulge at breakfast, and I often have early dinner reservations I look forward to.
In this context, I remembered a cafe attached to a bookstore I had visited a few times, so I decided to drop by.
Although it was slightly past lunchtime and there were no available seats, I was fortunate to find an empty spot at the counter before placing my order.
I had thought I could enjoy the Pulled Pork Sandwich, but it turned out to be a limited-time offering until September, so I ordered the Butter Chicken Curry instead, while my wife opted for a light Soup and Salad Set.
The interior featured framed advertisements from antique French magazines, providing an interesting backdrop while we dined.
Our food was served in about five minutes. The saffron rice was cooked a bit firmer than usual, paired with a chicken curry that had a hint of tanginess. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the curry; the chicken was tender and the spices were well-balanced. The accompanying vegetables were fresh and vibrant. The flavor was excellent and the portion size just right.
The soup was a corn soup—unremarkable but acceptable.
Overall, I appreciate the cafe's ambiance and convenience. Although scones are famous here, I would like to try the sandwiches and other offerings when I have the chance. In any case, it’s a great place for a light break and to satisfy my hunger.
