I enjoyed the Breakfast Plate (JPY 1,600) and the Hot Sandwich (JPY 1,200).
Upon leaving, I took away an English muffin (JPY 190) and a mini grape bread (JPY 240).
The total for two came to JPY 2,800 (JPY 1,400 per person).
Located in Karuizawa, Nagano Prefecture, it’s about a 60-minute walk from Karuizawa Station, or a short drive via the back road next to a yakiniku restaurant called Lantern, where you'll find "Ryokuyuu Shokudo."

On their official website, "Ryokuyuu Shokudo" is described as a café that doesn’t use animal products or sugar, with homemade yeast bread, serving simple, genuine ingredients that allow you to perceive the true flavor and energy of the food through all six senses.
The building, a 140-year-old traditional house, was once used as a rest house for a bank named "Ryokuyuu Sansou" and has been renovated into this restaurant.
As mentioned, I could enjoy a delicious breakfast that fortified my heart, tongue, and body in a beautiful natural setting.
The early opening hours from 08:00 on weekends (Friday to Sunday) are incredibly helpful if you arrive early in Karuizawa or need breakfast during your stay.

In the morning, the offerings were exclusively bread-based.
The narrow back road leading to the restaurant can be quite tense to drive,
but once you pass through, you find a spacious parking area surrounded by greenery.
Upon entering the restaurant, homemade yeast bread is immediately in sight.
At the back, there’s an eat-in area.
Fortunately, they even provided a high chair for kids.
The dishes I had were as follows:
* Breakfast Plate (JPY 1,600)
- It consisted of 2 types of bread, a side dish, yogurt, and soup or self-service drink (I chose soup).
- Each item had a simple yet gentle flavor, allowing for a delicate experience of the ingredients' umami.
- Lacking overwhelming boldness, each flavor could be appreciated individually, truly a moment of "engaging with food."
- Healthily curated, this dish was delightful for both tongue and body.
* Hot Sandwich (JPY 1,200)
- The soup was the same as with the breakfast plate, and it was delicious—a gentle flavor yet full-bodied in taste.
- The hot sandwich was overflowing with vegetables, and you can enjoy the crispy texture of the bread.
- The filling had a flavor reminiscent of monjayaki, which makes it quite addictive.
The overall "gentle" feel of the place, from the location to the interior and ingredients, gives reassurance when feeding children.
On my way out, I took away an English muffin (JPY 190) and a mini grape bread (JPY 240) to enjoy as a snack in the car.
Both had a wonderfully chewy texture and were delicious.
Whether for takeaway or dining in, "Ryokuyuu Shokudo" offers a meal that connects you with nature. I highly recommend visiting at least once. It was a great meal.
