While I was in line at the checkout to buy vegetables at Karuizawa Hatsuichi Shijiten, I was taken aback to see over 10 people waiting at each of the five registers.
During that wait, I noticed the 'Homemade Yeast Confectionery Anpan' on display and decided to try it because it looked delicious.
At first glance, it resembled a donut-shaped bagel.
With a large walnut in the center, it is surrounded by sweet red bean paste.
The bread was a bit dry, but it made for a nice snack.
