On July 23rd, the first day of the long weekend, we traveled to Karuizawa by car.
That morning, we stopped by here for breakfast.
We arrived around 7:30 AM, and despite the rain, there were already a few groups waiting. We were about fourth in line and were seated after about 15 minutes.
The restaurant is housed in a traditional Japanese home with a dirt floor in the center, tables at the back, and a tatami room to the left. We were led to the tatami room on the left.
We ordered the tororo set meal and the onigiri set meal, both of which come with yudofu (boiled tofu), tonjiru (pork miso soup), kinpira gobo (stir-fried burdock), pickles, and grilled trout. Each set was JPY 1,330.
The rice is cooked in a traditional clay pot, but it didn't stand out much compared to a home pressure IH cooker.
If possible, I wish they would reduce the side dishes and price it around JPY 980.
They have soba noodles on the lunch menu, so I would like to try that next time.
The staff was very kind and greeted us with smiles, which felt nice.
