While searching for a lunch spot, I spotted a flag that said "Kama-meshi" and remembered that I had been craving it lately, so I decided to go in.
I was informed that the kama-meshi takes about 20 minutes to cook, but since I wasn't in a hurry, that was no problem.
While it was cooking, I was served a mini soba, pickled cucumbers, pickled wasabi greens, and kuzumochi dumplings. The soba was cold and served with a dipping sauce—quite delicious.
Among the pickles, the wasabi greens had a rich flavor that could easily accompany two bowls of rice!
I saved the dumplings for dessert, and they were wonderfully chewy and tasty.
Now, onto the main attraction—the kama-meshi!
It was filled with shrimp, mitsuba (Japanese wild parsley), quail eggs, and shredded ginger, all resting on a generous amount of bamboo shoots. There were also well-cooked shiitake mushrooms, which made for a satisfying meal. The rice was lightly seasoned, allowing the dashi aroma to shine through, making it delicious!
As a side note, being in Karuizawa, I noticed a famous actress filming outside, and the staff mentioned that celebrities often come to this area for shoots, so it’s just an everyday occurrence for them!
Since it was still early for lunch, the restaurant was calm, and our lively conversation became a cherished memory.
It was a great meal! *:.。. (・ω・`人).☆
